The Run In

VantaaVale

Recommended Posts

Looking at Vale's fixtures for the run in and the opposing teams home and away records from the links below:

LINK - Home Records

LINK - Away Records

Oxford (A) - 12th

Bradford (H) - 16th

Southend (H) - 4th

Bristol Rovers (A) - 17th

York (A) - 20th

Aldershot (H) - 13th

Cheltenham (H) - 9th

Chesterfield (A) - 7th

Burton (H) - 18th

Rochdale (A) - 19th

Northampton (H) - 19th

Wycombe (A) - 15th

If we take our last four games we had as some sort of guide:

Barnet (A) - 16th (D)

Morecambe (H) - 12th (L)

Torquay (A) - 13th (W)

Exeter (H) - 3rd (L)

Most of the teams we have yet to play are in the bottom half of their respective tables. Surely we can get the 6 wins we need from this lot, can't we?

If we look at it slightly differently, based on recent form which may be a better indicator, we have:

LINK - Home form

LINK - Away form

Oxford (A) - 19th

Bradford (H) - 15th

Southend (H) - 14th

Bristol Rovers (A) - 10th

York (A) - 23rd

Aldershot (H) - 12th

Cheltenham (H) - 16th

Chesterfield (A) - 12th

Burton (H) - 17th

Rochdale (A) - 17th

Northampton (H) - 13th

Wycombe (A) - 8th

And again the last four games:

Barnet (A) - 8th (D)

Morecambe (H) - 7th (L)

Torquay (A) - 22nd (W)

Exeter (H) - 4th (L)

So one point against teams in the top half of their respective tables. But looking at what is to come, we really should be able to get the wins we need.

Are these predictions based on our recent home performances?

I predict 36 points from that ,12 wins 0 draws and 0 defeats and before anyone says no chance why the hell not :)

So here goes

Oxford 0 Port Vale 2

Port Vale 3 Bradford 0

Port Vale 2 Southend 0

York 0 Port Vale 2

Bristol Rovers 1 Port Vale 2

Port Vale 4 Aldershot 0

Port Vale 1 Cheltenham 0

Chesterfield 1 Port Vale 2

Port Vale 3 Northampton 1

Wycombe 0 Port Vale 3

Rochdale 0 Port Vale 2

Port Vale 4 Burton 2

That's it no probs :)

Love your scores, but feel these are more likely-(Vale score first in each game)

Oxford (A) - 1-1 tricky game

Bradford (H) - 1-1 would normally lose at home to a team in this placing, but they must be tired

Southend (H) - 0-1 Southend are same as Fleetwood, Chestefield, Exeter, Morecambe.

0-1 not 0-2 as defence improved.

Bristol Rovers (A) - 2-1 Vale away heroics stop a bad run and silence or at least slow down the worries.

York (A) - 2-0 Confidence growing as we again show well on the road.

Aldershot (H) - 2-1 Late winner, hard game with Aldershot battling hard but just enough extra quality

Cheltenham (H) - 0-1 No surprise as we are caught out again at Vale Park.

Chesterfield (A) - 1-2 Gutted by a bad ref and poor penalty against us, Richards scores winner.

Burton (H) - 3-2 Vale finally do it at home in a massive game that delights the fans.

Rochdale (A) - 0-0 Difficult game where Rochdale put up surprising resistance.

Northampton (H) - 1-1 Vale just keep ahead of their opponents in a nerve-wrnching game.

Wycombe (A) - 3-0 Promotion clinched in style and a wave of joy and relief overwhelms travelling army.

12 games, 8 points at home (2w 2d 2 l) 11 points away (3w 2d 1) 19 pts added total 82 pts (2nd).

With the above scanario, there would be unbelievable panic and loathing after the third game when we lose to Southend, followed by huge relief when we win the next three, and a big scare after losing to Cjheltenham and Chesterfield before it finally comes good. In other words, nomal service resumed.

Of course I will be wrong - but let's review it gamee by game and see how far ahead or behind we are. If we were to beat Oxford and Bradford that would make the rest seem a load less pressure !

If we get our goal scoring boots back and start playing with tempo from the kick off for our home games meaning we score first in most of them, we will be promoted by getting at least the 6 wins we need. However..........

24 hours on and hearing Micky saying he's going to change things, I'm more positive. The great and the good on another thread said 78 points for automatic. Looking at the fixtures, I can see 4 wins. York, Aldershot, Rochdale (we owe them a good stuffing after their shameless performance at Vale) and Wycombe. Hope we can scrape a few draws to see us home.

I'll keep the play-off dates free, just in case.
