Bill Bell - RIP

As much as I honour everything he did for the club there is a fair section that will boo I fear. 1) I wouldn't like a negative start to the game and 2) it would be very disrespectful to his family that will probably be in attendance a guests of honour. Don't know if it's been suggested but I think a minutes applause would be much better.

I disagree as was not one of Billy Bell biggest fans for personal reasons BUT i would never boo or disrespect his memory in anyway and i very much doubt anyone else would.......:rolleyes:

Billy Bell was old School and i would imagine he would have prefer silence to clapping......:yes:

Here's a story. Dave Brown a mate of mine from Endon was his paperboy.

Dave boasted every Christmas the generous tips he got from the big houses on Clay Lake yet never any from Bill Bell.

The vale supporting owners of the paper shop asked Bill about this and his reply raises a smile;

"I couldn't possibly tip a lad who wears a Stoke scarf"

From Dave himself that story :)

Me and Dave both went on to serve Bill many a beer in the Plough

Always open to chat about the Vale's fortunes and even after he left it was clear the club still meant so much to him.

People should remember all the good times, they by far outweigh the bad!

RIP Bill!

Spot on there Nodge and for the life of me i cannot understand how some of these condolence posts have got a minus on them, disrespectful imo.

I think we all knew that he was serious about taking us forward when he made £200,000 available for the signing of Dean Glover. We were close to promotion come the February and Sproson/Hazell were struggling to come back from injury. When we needed that final push he paid out even then what was a lot of money. (how much in todays money is £200,000?)

That was an incredible day to be a Vale fan - transfer record smashed (was it £40,000 before that?) PLUS we also re-signed our idol Andy Jones on loan.

Then 2 days later Glover showed why we'd paid that much when we kept a clean sheet against Bull & Mutch in a 0-0 in front of a massive attendance (for the old Division 3) of over 16000.

The dodgy 1980's sheepskin coat, the unmistakable whiff of his cigars and the way he'd often cut corners to get the job done. A strange relationship at times that he and John Rudge had. But one that brought a glorious decade in the history of Port Vale F.C. He had his faults, but he was Vale through and through. R.I.P Mr Bell.

RIP Mr Bell and thoughts with his family who I used to deal with as part of my job. But without being in anyway disrespectful, there has been quite a few pairs of rose tinted specs worn on this thread. Great times under his chairmanship, the best, but certain things shouldnt be forgotten or rewritten IMHO

This isnt the time or the place to discuss this as that would be disrespectful, but it would appear time is a healer with only good times remberered. Great times when Mr Bell was chairman, I have already said that, but helped along the way by many other factors one in particular. Again, RIP Mr WT Bell and thougts are with his family.
