Will the Lorne Street be renamed the Bill Bell stand?

I hope some posters aren't being hypocritical.

For all his faults, he and Rudgie got us within a whisker of the top level of football.

Thanks for those good years.

I agree it would be a fitting tribute to him and ironic as the building of the Lorne street was the beginning of the end!!!

RIP Bill.

You've played a great part in port vale fc. Great times with you and JR.

Thanks for the memories old fella.

Agree - The Love/ Hate relationship of Bill & Rudgie have provided me with many lasting memories of 'Great Vale' sides.

RIP Bill, condolencies to the family

I'd like to see some sort of permanent fixture to remember him by. Without him amd Rudge we'd have folded in the early 80's

The success in the 90s was a far cry away from what they started with.

Younger fans sadly only remember the demise of the Bell regime.

Brilliant totally agree black arm bands and silence or applause is not enough for the man who gave us our proudest days

What a combination, Bell and Rudgie - brought us the finest football I can ever remember in over 50 years supporting the Vale. During the nineties I used to wonder at the quality of player the two geniuses had managed to bring to Vale Park. It was just wonderful to watch and at times it seemed like they had the Midas touch. Best time ever!

RIP, Bill.

I don't know if anyone heard the interview with John Rudge on Radio Stoke. The reception from Rudgie's mobile was quite poor but he did say that he'd made his peace with Belly about 24 hours ago (I think) when he bumped into him in hospital and they shook hands. He also said that Bell had never interfered in the managerial side of things (he actually said "Bill never interfered with me", which must have been quite a relief), which seems to fly in the face of everything we'd heard re. Ainsworth's transfer but Rudgie seemed quite magnanimous and said his thoughts were with BB's family. He seemed to talk about the sacking but his reception was so bad we could only hear 'director of football'. I think.
