Port Vale v Bolton - Match Thread

Positives 1. They are without Blackett-Taylor who has really impressed since joining on loan from Derby in January and Cozier-Duberry who we couldn't cope with in the reverse fixture and 2. They have a tendency to struggle against teams away near the bottom as they drew at Blackpool, drew at Orient, lost at Northampton, lost at Burton, drew at Doncaster, won at Wigan and Exeter and drew at Rotherham despite being 2-0 down at half-time.

Negatives 1. They still have good players who can make an impact, 2. They are in the playoffs, 3. Not lost in the league since January, 4. Have scored 12 goals in second-half stoppage time this season and 5. They have goalscorers in Burstow and Dalby.

I did say yesterday that Bolton have a tendency to struggle against teams near the bottom away from home and it's happened to them again this afternoon.

We all would have taken a lucky 1-0 where we rode our luck, but this wasn’t that. We were the better team and in another day would have won by 2 or 3. They looked really poor but it’s a great win and performance. If only we could have held the lead and won at Blackpool a few days ago, who were there for the taking.

Agreed.

But we can start to put that right by beating Doncaster on Tuesday.

I agree with others that C Hall was Motm, he was absolutely superb today.

I don't think anyone had a bad game for us, brilliant team effort!

Excellent defending. Would have preferred to convert some of our later chances but this is all we needed to do. Well done lads.

well, well, well this team does have a surprise in it. We made bolton look ordinary today.

I don't know if Im alone in this but I feel we could, and probably should, have beaten them by more.

Outstanding use of G Halls pace through the middle and conor put in yet another MOM performance in the defence today. Gabriel was also outstanding.

I know we are down but if we fight like that until the last day I will feel much better about it.

Breathing down Northamptons neck now.

Agree with the rest of your post.

But Vale are not already down.

It is still all to fight for.

And superb performances like today show that we can and will fight for it.

Here's the current table -

Beat Doncaster on Tuesday evening and we are right back in the mix, with everything still to fight for.

This is Port Vale.

Confounding expectations is what we do.
