Summer transfer rumours and speculation

I count a team of 29 players. The only weakness as I put them down is possibly centre back cover (even then Hart probably needs to go).

This list of mine includes youth players in Davies, Lomax, Shorrock, Agnero.

There might be a loan in there somewhere to come in but certain players would have to go if we recruit any more.

It’s a lot people still want another striker as well. I’d love proper Stockley cover too but difficult to find that profile happy to sit on the bench that could make an impact at this level?

Players likely to leave IMO or we’d ship:

Davies (loan to NL again)

Heneghan

Lomax (loan to NL)

Shorrock

Hart

Agnero (loan to NL)

Plant

Ojo

Paton

Agnero isn't signed on a professional contract, he has a scholarship. So 28 players in total

I also remember him turning in an outstanding performance at home twisting in mid air to tip one over the bar right in front of me and my dad in the by cars. Can’t remember who it was against of course.

i used to enjoy Bury away but glad we ve moved in the opposite direction to them over the past few years.

I think you've got this spot on in terms of potential departures. The only thing preventing the permanent departures would be wage expectations. Hard to see a scenario where Ojo or Hart get any significant playing time, Heneghan looks to have fallen down the pecking order and Plant, Shorrock and the other youngsters don't look like they'll be first or even second choices and may need to go out on loan.

Paton is probably the most interesting. Did himself (and resale value) no favours with that sorry loan spell at Dundee United but I don't see him as the type of player to just train and collect a wage. If he's not in the first team picture, I doubt the club want such a big personality in and around the place either. I could see him (and Ojo perhaps too?) heading North of the border towards the end of the window if he hasn't got any game time by then. I still think there's enough credit in the bank for a bottom 6 SPFL side (or Ross County + St Johnstone who have dropped down into the Champ but will have decent budgets) to take him and seems the most likely destination.

Ah, he had one appearance last season (FL trophy?) and moved to second year apprentice. It’s defender Joe Williams who earned a pro contract, maybe he gets some FL trophy experience and time at NL level then 🙂 Hope we get to see the lad in the cup while he gets some game time somewhere.

Still from my list I’d like to see those players moved on and we look to fill the remaining spots with a defender to upgrade on Heneghan and Hart at CB and striker for Stockley 2.0.

Maybe there is something in the Scotland market we could do a swap on Ojo or Paton with maybe. Would certainly understand Paton being happier back up there as he hasn’t much time to settle round here.

Wouldn't mind keeping heneghan, but would see if we can move on hart and get in another ball playing defender. That would leave us with:

- Committed Old school defenders - Hall, Deborah, Heneghan

- Ball playing defenders - Humphrey, John, new addition

I do think it's important to have a mix. Last time we had a CB with more ball playing ability (Forrester) we definitely relied on more traditional defenders next to him.

#L1 ready. Some squad this with loads of options even with some injuries and suspensions.

We have 5 forwards now in Waine, Stockley,  Curtis, Tolaj and Paton. Plus Shipley who has some experience there. I think one has to leave to add one. Despite any talk Waine hasn't joined at Tolaj's replacement; if he leaves there will be money spent. Unless players leave I think that's the squad for August.  Maybe some loans later in the window.

Of the 5 forwards currently on the books we have only Stockley as a proven striker at the level, Curtis to a lesser extent.  The others are unproven, I’m not including Shipley as I don’t see him playing there regularly.  Without seeing Waine, it sounds as though he’s closer to Paton, possibly Hackford if he has that pace. I’d be amazed if we don’t sign a “target man” type of forward to cover Stockley.  My gut feeling is we’ll hold out for an experienced player late in the window, possibly on loan as you say.

Kabongo Tshimanga signs for Crawley

Darren Moore again hasn’t messed around in signing players this summer. He has already pretty much got his whole squad together, bar maybe one or two, for pre season ‘volume’ work. It seems light years away from the struggles under Flitcroft to get players in, where we would be starting the season without key first team positions being filled. Hopefully he has got the right additions to strengthen us and add that depth to the squad. What also strikes me is how many left footers we now have in the team. I don’t ever remember us having so many. Hopefully again it will give us a bit more balance to the team.
