Port Vale v MK Dons match thread- Mar 15th

Featured Replies

MK are only mathmatically in the relegation conversation. The reality is the bottom two in all likelihood will be the ones who drop. We go to Carlisle mid-April and it's quite possible it could be us to put the nail in their coffin if it hasn't already happened by then.

A common theme here is that opposition teams have us sussed. Clearly that is true, as we are generally predictable.

So, given recent results I wonder if DM will take the chance to really shake things up this coming weekend, both personnel and tactics? I know it's not his style but we simply have to find a way to win in these last few games. We need to be brave...

Who does have pace?

This season have seen Stockley, Chislett, Garitty...  clear of the last defender and running at goal, but getting caught or turning back to look for support. Curtis giving up on chasing back. Harte watching as he jogs in the wake of an opposition player... And no doubt you can remember further examples.

Personally I think that was a big failure with our recruitment when we have been crying out for some pace and power for years now,Tovide and the Colchester LW proved what you can do and as much as I dislike Tovide i would love to see him play alongside Tolaj for us

I know it's not this thread but how come the Barrow game is a 7.30 kick off? 🤔

I think the issue with a back four is only Smudge looks remotely comfortable in one, plus we still have no natural full backs apart from Kyle John, which was an issue last year too (Mitch is a much better wing back than full back).

Debrah is quick but doesn't read the game well, Hall reads the game but isn't quick enough. Sang couldn't play centre back in a four and neither could John. God help us if Sam Hart ended up there.

I reckon it'll be something like this:

Amos

Sang Smith Hall

Clark Chislett Croasdale Richards Shorrock

Stockley Tolaj

Mitch Clark played pretty well for us in his first 55 games ... all of which were at fullback. He'd never played wingback before he joined Accrington.  As he hasn't played fullback since he returned I haven't seen any evidence he's less competent in that position than during his 3 loans. Kyle John has never started a league game as a fullback. Personally I think both are capable of playing in a 4 but I don't believe the manager will do that.

Both would be absolutely fine playing full back.

The problem with Smith now is and Andy Crosby highlighted this as an area he targeted after the Tranmere game but teams are now allowing him to have the ball at his feet knowing full well he is utterly clueless with it and it's noticeable how pedestrian in possession we've been as a result. Can put some of that down to the puddings we are playing on potentially but either way there needs to be an adjustment to it which I haven't seen the manager make yet.

This is nothing new at all. It’s not some sudden revelation that’s happened this last few games. It’s been happening for years. We do it to opposition teams too. It’s up to the manager to find another way of getting round it.
