Port Vale v Carlisle match thread - 21st Dec

They had a game plan and stuck to it.  We have seen opposition play us and know exactly how we are going to set up - play and they have done their homework and stopped us totally.

The way they played they will or should move out of the drop zone if they play like they did today.

Carlisle were not good, the quality from both sides was terrible. Yes, they deserved the point and probably shaded the game but the benchmark was very low.

Hopefully, shake up the squad in the transfer window. I'd get rid of byers. I'm not sure his heart is in it. Can't afford a luxury player.

It's not just Byers who's hearts not in it there's quite a few others in the squad come under that description as well tbf

We’re just rubbish. Every game is boring, the football is turgid every week. We’ve picked up points from set pieces and streamers but our general play from open play has been utterly atrocious. I haven’t forgotten the tripe on show last season and personally I would have said thanks to Darren at the end of the season and gone separate ways.

He isn’t the man to take us forwards. I’m bored to death watching his ‘style’ of football. Sitting in, letting every opposition dictate play hoping we get 1 chance at some point. Swapping the team every game. Dropping players for weeks to then suddenly restore them to the starting 11. Majority of players out of position.

He ain’t the man. I’d be more than happy for us to get rid. I just don’t rate Moore at all tactically as a manager. Dropping down to where we belong. Mid table.

Our 1 win in 7 was against rock bottom Morecambe. Who should have been a couple of goals up before we got lucky with a scramble from less than 2 yards out.

I’ve just heard Moore say on the radio that doesn’t think that anyone’s questioning the players commitment. Not sure what game he was watching today.

I feel really sorry for Carol.

Who didn't see that coming from a mile off? We look a side massively suffering in confidence at the moment despite being high up in the league. Confidence is everything in football. Just look at Man City, a team full of world-class players still but can barely string a couple of decent performances together. I've never been and never will be Darren Moore's biggest fan. But while he is getting a lot wrong at the moment, he can't be held responsible for players not being able to pass the ball 5 yards, or missing very presentable chances. The players sent out today should still be more than good enough to perform much better against such a poor side.

I work in a warehouse.
I am a “multi skilled worker”.
If I get put on one job every day for weeks on end I’m happy.
When I get moved 3 times a shift every week I’m pissed off.
The same goes for footballers.
When they are playing they are happy.
The problem seems to be we have certain players who know if they don’t put in an exceptional performance they won’t play next week. Then they try too hard and look awful. Tolaj is the prime example. He looks a shadow of what he was in August.

I would go as far to say that this group of players are pissed off with their roles being changed every week and the manager has, or is very close to, losing the dressing room.

You’ve just said you don’t care about the football or an identity or philosophy and then broke down our current identity and philosophy!

Thats not a dig by the way. But you obviously are bothered about how we play.

See what you mean mate but that's genuinely not quite what I meant.

I'm not someone who is ever going to be demanding nice pretty football every week.

My take on it, particularly today, is that we don't really do any of it.

I don't see us getting down the wings OR chucking ball after ball into the box OR kicking around the box trying to create a chance.

Is that a better way of saying it?

Hopefully so!!!

If not, I'm probably confusing myself as much as anyone else and need to go and have something nice for tea and few jars.

Definitely not taking what you said as a pop at me mate, all good.

For the first time this season I resorted to the default position of head in hands of the last two campaigns. It looks like they have forgotten how to play football.

DM radio chat will be full of ums.  Then he will say "We will learn from this match".

When is he and the others going to learn from these matches where we have played bad?  Oh yes he will make 5 changes and play players out of their favourite position.

Bring on P&G for the lardies to provide some humour tonight.

I’ve muted the radio, give it five minutes and I’ll put the sound back on. Said before just talks donkey twaddle. Another who because he’s payed professional football thinks that he’s a guru and the fans know diddly squat about the game.

On the other hand, most players are getting starts and a chance to perform but simply aren't. Far too few are doing enough to deserve to keep the shirt the following game.

Very true, but you wonder if getting a start after being out of the team and bench is enough for them to show their ability.  Some are coming in after a small lay off and expected to show straight away they are ready.  They are off match pace and then dropped out of the starting 11.  Do they get a 2nd game to show they are capable.  DM and Co seem to think not and they move to the bench or out of the squad again.

Just a thought and yes they should show they want to wear the top and put in a good display.  But fail to do so.  Is it from trying to hard or not able to wear the starting 11 top.

Oh to be the manager and coaches.

Lol... "we learn from it going into the Bradford game"

He's been saying that since at least Gillingham.

The evidence suggests we are learning NOTHING.

He said “ the game “ 16 times.  Pedantic , I know but 🙄

We don’t do anything.
Im at a point where I can’t even tell you the formation!

It was like Sunday morning kids running around.

Stockley has gone from an out and out striker to a lower league Harry Kane for England at the euros, going back to the defence to get the ball!!

There is so much wrong with the tactics and set up at the minute that I don’t know where the next goal is coming from never mind the next win.

I agree with Valiant 593 if there's even a sniff that DC could be tempted come back The Vale I'd snatch you're arm off

The one thing you got with DCs teams were high pressing high intensity football which was enjoyable to watch most of the time unlike the football under DM

I personally think Vale fans really over rate this group of players. The squad is inflated rather than strong.

It’s no coincidence we have been poor without our captain.

Youre forgetting that the team we played were bottom and are at risk of dropping out of the football league, have won three games all season and have a goal differcne of -17. I wish confidence affected this game more than the managers tactics, then we should have destroyed them.

The squad and team are far better than we have seen in the last 7 games.

Nothing much say .

It was a very poor afternoon and not because where they are in table

We are lifeless at present and have nobody taking games by the scruff of the neck

Entertainment value 2 out of 10

We at home you got be doing hell of a lot better than that .

Shorrock did he do anything good in that game ?

Cause if he did I didn't see anything

Chislett what you delaying just smack it in net 3 times

Overall they deserved a point

We league 2 level

Do you want Vale go up and not be able play with that self belief arrogance and excellence required in league 1 .

Today was dirge again

Shorrock can be excused, don’t forget the kid is 17 years old.
Patton did nothing, Tolaj when came on was shocking, only players of any note today were Stockley, Harper and Sang.
