First dibs pre-season friendlies

On a follow-up to my post re preseason friendlies if we do play Newcastle town, Alsager, leek town, kidsgrove, Norton utd, Hanley town etc then as part of the agreement we get first dibs on any new raw talent. Just a thought as I’m Shaw that a city with a population of around 250,000 can produce a few more footballing prospects !!!!

Those fixtures have already been announced, we are playing Newcastle, leek and kidgsrove. Also didn’t Norton fold about 10 years ago?

Be amazed if anyone from that low down the pyramid would make the grade.

We might have had a guy called Burndred years ago who made at most a  couple of appearances from possibly Newcastle Town or he ended up there after us, but the gulf in class is massive.

My apologies re Norton utd, but every football club in league 1,2, national league and below, we need to protect our future. Any player goes on a dependent on age contract with

a minimum £40,000,000. Contract. Yes  I’m sure you’re all laughing, but jut take a look at the stupid transfer fees in the premier league !!!!!

The premier clubs only think of themselves, so should we !!!! Any player from the lower leagues who’s been hunted by a premier or championship, then the chairman from league 1,2 and non league get together to determine the asking price !!!!!

Any stattos out there who can time line financially the top 20 English players who have come from non-league to the championship and premier!!!

Friendliest against out local lower league teams are mainly played to allow them to get some money in to keep them going.

Tgeres got to be bigger teams or we’re up the Trent & Mersey, without a paddle.

Going way back I think Ronnie Jepson joined us from Nantwich Town having already played for Hanley, Newcastle & Kidsgrove etc. Only turned pro in his mid 20’s and has since had a relatively good career in the pro game - Neil Warnock’s an obvious fan.  But you’re right, with all the professional club academies locally and nationally, the days of finding a fork lift truck driver doing a shift one day who can then walk straight into a L1 team the next (Ian Taylor), are long gone.

There's the odd one knocking around, I mean Ben Garrity was playing for Warrington Town 18 months before he joined Vale. The big clubs just hoover up so many kids these days that young players who in the past would have worked their way up in the non leagues are just rotting in academies and B teams.

John Burndred came from Knypersley Victoria.

Macauley Langstaff may well be in the Championship soon, came from non-league not so long ago.
