Wycombe (H) match thread - 16th April

The team was ok first half v Exeter with Uche leading the line and holding the ball up. We looked threatening going forward and were adequate in defence. But second half, Uche obviously exhausted and taken off, the team had nothing going forward or in defence.

I will say Ojo is decent midfield player. The problem is other players can't play. Give the ball to Chilslett, he's often too deep and is easily knocked over and dispossessed. Garrity is useful in forward areas, but not central midfield. Our wing backs are dreadful defenders.

Why was Weir signed? I'm seeing Natuonal League with him. Our youngsters, Dipepe aside, are not L1 level yet - maybe never.

But we just have to give it max effort and hope we have a bit of luck. It's a confidence game and we must hope Wycombe don't score first or the wheels may come off big time.

Think we will lose comfortably, I just don’t see how this group of players can come back from that 2nd half. They’re bad enough as it is without confidence being shot. 0-3 and burton to win to put us out of our misery.

Look, we know Vale Fan in Alsager and Devine Intervention hated Nathan Smith but I'm surprised at this from you? 😉

I've disliked him.mainly because in all his 400 appearances we have lost so many,I haven't got the stats  they will not make good reading .

I ain't really got any faith in him to change what he is which is a mid table league 2 player at best if not surrounded by better players .

He as come on in leaps and bounds though and at times has being superb however in my opinion not enough times .

The fans love him as when he at it he is generally OK but I don't see a hunger when watching him .

Unless he is dominating someone in the air then really what is he actually contributing to the team.

First half v Exeter he led like the player we expect him be  v Swindon second leg v Reading first home game v A few others mainly recently but overall he as along with many others in this team being shown that league 1 in 3 stints he  has not not stepped up so to speak .

People are quick have a go at me because I'm.quite forthcoming with my comments however I just say what I see .

When at games I encourage him but overall I ain't being happy with what he as produced .

No doubt though cause he is loyal he will get chance see out his contract next season let's hope Vale have better centre half's than him lined up though, as I think that's part of the problem the club want players who they can afford and by cutting back or not being able cut cloth to get better we get stuck with same old .

The biggest problem we have it's a Tuesday night! Not won a midweek game in a very long while! Why? it does put serious questions about our fitness. Also we conceed a lot of late goals, mind you we conceded a lot anyway. Absolutely no steel in the side whatsoever nor has there been for sometime.

March 2022 v Mansfield last home league win midweek.

Think I'm right that last midweek league win was Salford April 2022. The Charsley winner.

Stand to be corrected.

Correct, although if set on midweek you could possibly put Swindon in the Play Offs.

Who was Smith marking second half on all four goals he seems to have disappeared ,yet first half he was good as they all were ,whether lack of leadership second half he doesn't motivate ,he doesn'tdo any  rollicking all he does is fall out with Ripley  he's the captain more often than not and as being since Jan 2023 and its being all downhill .

Make uche captain let's have someone leading by example someone new

Smiths times up at the club .

For me part of a team who have conceded 141 goals in league one (probably the only ever present which is testimony to how he trains ).

However today's the present and he is part of a team who conceded 4 goals in one half when Vale were playing a must win game

To me you try someone different maybe they will be positive on the ball and bring it forwards to create a angle not take easy option and pass it that slowly opposition have time to get in shape .

Vale need quicken up in everything they do .

Debrah was pretty decent v BR I'd try him in middle .

Why not .

Vale see are  stuck in there ways how often do you see the wing backs change sides .

I've never seen Grant cutting in from right jmw used do it to great effect scoring howitzers.

I think all our appointed manager have one common theme no imagination

Wake up managers think about how you can/we  be better

While it’s fair to say Smith is not really captaincy material making Uche the captain is a really out there suggestion. Not sure what example you think he’s setting other than displaying some absolutely shocking conditioning to be blowing out of his arse after 50 minutes.

He could also help out in the club shop  because they're always short of staff
