Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Featured Replies

Be interesting to see what style of play we try to recruit for.

Will we try again for possession based football? We talked so much at the beginning of this season about needing to do that to be competitive in league one, attract good loans etc. The theory could be right, but we know the recruitment was definitely wrong.

Or will we shape a team for league 2, be more direct and uncompromising.

Will we get some decent wingers and target man approach?

Kind of hoping we can stick to a plan and not have to compromise as we can't be bothered to pay going rate for a striker. Atleast we can't use the Wrexham are distorting the market excuse again seeing as they will be fishing in a bigger pond than us.

For me I’d like to see a bit more flexibility rather than just recruit for a style.  One of the problems this season seemed to be we were so wedded to a system that we couldn’t deviate much.  It didn’t help that we hadn’t recruited all the players we needed to play the style chosen by the DoF, but that’s another story.

Dan Kemp is our of contract this summer. Does well everywhere he goes on loan; never works out for him at MK Dons. There's also a young player at Hartlepool who is pretty quick and started scoring goals called Joe Grey. Both can play as a second striker, either wing and as a 10. Both score goals.

We need to have 4 or 5 goal scorers in the group. Even someone like Ben Whitfield would improve us. He's developed a lot over the past couple of seasons and has become quite versatile.  He's played wingback and centreforward for Barrow as well as on the wing and as a 10. The bottom line is someone like Ray Walker was never in the side to score goals.  Our 3rd highest scorer has 4, something Walker regularly exceeded. We had Devine at the start of the season for a few games, more recently Dipepa and when we stupidly put Chislett on the bench for a few games the manager has not had any options to change a game.

For the first time ever, I'm actually going to disagree with you.

Going on from what Darren Moore said to the sponsors on Monday and his pre-match interview yesterday. I think that their is going to be some big changes to put this avoidable mess right.

My guess is that the first thing that he will do, will be to release every single player out of contract. It's the easiest thing to sort out first to make some room. Plus, none of them have performed for us over the past 12/18 months. So, no bother at all in letting them go.

I include the reserve keeper in that too because I'm not sure if it is a good thing to have someone on the bench that know's he's not going play and also think that affects the goalkeeper that is playing because he know's  that he's got no competition.

I also think that their maybe 1 or 2 surprises when it come's player's under contract.

It's going to be a very interesting retain list next week.

Well, the difference in mine and your view is that you think Leutweiler and Wynne will be gone and I’ll think they’ll stick around.

The cold reality is that Loft, Grant, Sang, Debrah, and others that have underperformed will most probably be here next season.

I hope we make some big changes but fear it may take 12 months to undo such a sorry mess.

I personally think that we will agree the termination of contracts with 2 or 3 players under contract.

Maybe not Loft, Sang or Debrah but I can see us agreeing an early settlement with the likes of Grant & Lowe.

If we do pay up any contracts early, I would also thought that would be announced after the retained list is announced.

You would hope it is and then the rebuilding work can start.  Not last minute dot com building a team to get us back to Div 1.

I would think that some talks have already taken place with some players due to be out of contract at their current clubs

Here's a question......Would you be prepared to sell Garrity and Chizzy and use the money to pay off existing contracts of some of the under contract players ?

Bearing in mind we would still have our transfer budget.

I would 100% sooner keep Garrity for League 2 even though Chislett also did well when he played there

I think the possession based idea will go with DM mentioning the structure of the club changing again,I have no idea what system DM employed at his previous clubs though,I do remember Sheff Wed being very attacking and scoring a lot of goals BUT they obviously had the quality players for that

I mentioned Kemp before when he went out on loan,I would certainly take him if Chislett left if he fits in with what DM wants plus he would be a free agent at 25(he will have offers probably one of those will be Swindon). The other lad would obviously cost a fee but according to some we have money to pay fees for players

I also think Wynne will be here next season as he has been signed on DM's watch, not sure on the keeper but you would expect him to play today so DM can see him in match action,if he doesn't then i think he will go.

I think DM will keep Debrah and Sang for League 2(i personally think they would do ok) but will try and move Loft and Grant on

If we don't play Wynne today it will be our most pointless ever signing.
