Tom Conlon Red Card Rescinded

JRC

With so much going on Conlon's red card rescinded so quickly seems to have gone under the window. There is no doubt in my mind that we would have gone on to take all 3 points if that incident had not occurred.  It's  pretty clear none of the officials really saw what happened yet made a decision.  There is also no doubt in my mind we would now be safe if we had 3 more points. Yet the club have no redress under this situation,  no apology from the league, or from the 3 officials who made the decision.  A decision which may well cost the club over a million pounds.

As the decision was to rescind the red rather than downgrade to a yellow, it would appear Conlon did nothing. It makes many of the posts about how shocking Conlon's behaviour was in the Lincoln thread appear somewhat moronic. Far from not playing for the club again, he's available tonight!

The mystery remains over what the alleged offense was for. If it was foul and abusive language surely one of the officials would have heard it. If it was an off the ball incident then one of the Lincoln players must have simulated injury and surely the FA should be issuing a significant sanction against the player.

One decision doesnt define a season. We are in our position in part due to Clarke/Conlon underperforming and Carol tightening the purse strings. Refs also under perform. Its a part of the game.

I very much doubt we are the only club to have a bad decision against us last week, nevermind over a season. I really dont think the Lincoln keeper should have walked.

The failure to drop Robinson after his outburst at the fans, failure on the manager's part again.

I don't think anybody really wanted Clarke to go, but he had to go.

The initial contact was outside the area. Plus there was another defender covering, should it have been a red card?

Law 12. If the contact continues into the area, it’s a pen. Where it starts is irrelevant.

Would that covering defender have been physically capable of intervening in the goal scoring opportunity given his distance from Taylor, the ball and the open area between the ball and the goal?

Right. By the time Taylor went down it was more than a metre inside the area. The ball was a metre inside beyond the keep and there was no player between the keeper and the goal. The law only says denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity and there was no way the defender would have got to the ball first.

Of course you would because that is what Vale fans do

But I am questioning whether it was a penalty for us, so levelling up. Do you think it was a penalty? As you always agree with the ref if the decision goes against us.

As well as a L2 game tonight, the referee has now also been appointed to Charlton vs Morecambe in L1 on Saturday. Good to see there’s accountability, eh?

If every referee was made accountable by being suspended, then games would be called off because we would have no officials to officiate them
