Has this season been a success? What now for next season?

As we come to the close of this season i have been asking myself has this season been a success? I can appreciate we haven't exactly finished yet with one game to go but lets face it we have nothing really to play for.

For me considering where we were at the end of last season, this season has been a success in terms of getting rid of the old regime. Most supporters surely would have given their right arms this time last year if they were told that Valiant 2001 would be gone. Not to mention that we have also been able to get rid of Lloyd, Deakin, Oliver and Miller. Over the last couple of seasons the off the field problems have divided supporters and hopefully now we will all be able to get behind the club and enjoy watching football again.

Keith Ryder hasn't given supporters detailed statements as how to he plans to turn this club around. However I never really expected him or any new prospective owner to anyway. He has however given some new hope that seems to have been missing from Vale Park for some years.

I think on the field this year we have been inconsistent. For me there has been some good performances and some really bad ones. If i m being honest we simply haven't been good enough to challenge for promotion or the playoffs and even without the 10 point deduction i still don't think we would have achieved promotion. Looking at our squad it simply isn't good enough and we will deservedly finish mid table. I find this extremely frustrating especially when you look at what Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, torquay etc have all done this season. The question that needs to be asked is why aren't we there? Why aren't we challenging? For me we where never going to compete from the off with what was going on off the pitch. If only Valiant 2001 had stood aside at the EGM and a new owner could have come in.

Personally now i think Micky Adams has one season left to prove himself at Vale Park. There has been a lot of talk by supporters asking where are the missing supporters? SEO has finished now so why havent supporters returned in their droves? I think that SEO has come about in two ways. Firstly in protest at the board and secondly at the product on the pitch. Lets be honest we were spoilt in the 1990s and i m sure there are a lot of supporters like me who are just fed up with watching dross. I really hope that next season we get off to a flyer because above all next season we need a winning exciting team to get the crowds back. If the product is right on the pitch the supporters/customers will return. This simple thing is something that was completely lost on Bill Bratt and his cronies. Hopefully Keith Ryder will be more concerned with rectifying this and not just holding power for his own ends like the old regime. If Vale win games and get a decent squad for next season the crowds will naturally follow. You only have to look at the gate against Shrewsbury the season before last to see this.

I only hope Keith Ryder can facilitate a sizeable playing budget so that we can compete. If Keith Ryder does walk the walk then Mickey will have no excuses for next season. For me reading The Sentinel and hearing that Lewis Haldane will be offered a new deal, it doesnt exactly fill me with confidence. Yes i m sure Lewis has had a hard time and i m sure he's a nice guy but is he a player that is going to get us promoted to League One? The answer is no, not unless he learns how to provide some end product in the immediate future. For me he should be released and shouldn't be retained just for 'personal reasons' .We really do need a shake up in pre season. I only hope we can keep our better players like Rico and Griff who seem to have a number of teams swarming around them .If only they were swarming around Haldane. We do however have an opportunity to clean the decks and i guess we will really find out how much Keith Ryder is willing to put in and secondly how good Mickey is at getting the right players in.

For me this season has been a success in terms of getting rid of Valiant 2001 and not losing our football league stays by us going into administration. The Conference would have been a nightmare to get out of. I pray that we have got an owner now who will listen to the fans and will invest sufficiently in order for us to progress. If we don't get the formula right next season and the product on the pitch isn't right then SEO or no SEO, the gates will be low.

Keith Ryder needs to be given an opportunity and all fans now need to get behind him.

On the field NO apart from Lofty Rico and Grif.

We are not good enough and the last two seasons have shown this regardless of Micky leaving and Admin.

We need to improve, we need a clearout - lets see

Off the field, we have got what we wanted - YES success at a price

I think we've got a very average bunch of players to be honest emphasised by today's embarassing defeat. Some very poor home performances this season as well and we never dominate teams. It's definitelty not fortress Vale Park.

I definitely think we need several (five at least) decent signings to encourage the missing couple of thousand or so to come back.

All in all I can't think of many memorable games or highlights other than getting rid of the board. I'm hoping for much much better next season.

Accrington at home for me is the only memorable game. Only because I had a couple of quid on rigg to score first and Vale win 4-0. (god knows why! odds were 180-1) we were 4-0 up at half time with rigg scoring the first, I was already spending my winnings when accy scored a consolation with about 10 to go.

No without the emergence of Doug Loft and the consistent performances of Rico, the season has been shocking the signings of poor players

Ben Williamson

Clayton McDonald

Ryan Green

Phil Roe

Kingsley James

Tom Pope

Ryan Burge (may turn out to be good)

Paul Marshall

Gareth Owen(should have never re signed)

It's make or break for Micky only Doug Loft who is still a vale player has been a good signing from Mr Adams

I think this season as been the worst season on the field, of the four years that we have been in this dreadful league, players have been inconsistent, we have no pace in the side, the players don't look fit, the coaching staff have not got a clue, how to turn a game around once we go a goal down, I think it's time for a good clear out of players and coaching staff, and lets start next season with a fresh start.
