The Kings Lynn cup match and the 4-3 defeat at home to Tranmere completely knocked the stuffing out of Askey as the manager here. The abject defeat at Stevenage was when I knew he was too far gone to turn it around.

Yeah, after a decent start following a good season I was reasonably confident of promotion.  And suddenly the wheels fell off dramatically.  Ended up struggling to survive.

I would love to know what went on behind the scenes

Let's hope that York don't try to poach DC then...

Is that you saying you don't want DC to leave?

Saying that York will need deep pockets to buy out the remaining 4.5 years of Darrell's contract and pay him enough money to persuade him to drop 2 divisions. They would also have to have Carol's permission to speak to him. Very obvious that scenario is never going to happen.

Clarke will leave, he said so himself. It is just a question of when and where he goes to next.

You're stating the obvious now. Every manager knows that it's a job with a limited timescale. The facts are that he and Carol have agreed and signed a 5year contract recently. He loves it here and values the owners as they do him. Yes he will leave sometime, but not in the near future.

Sounds like John Askey has been thrown under the bus. Only going to be one winner if you don't get on with your boss, got to manage up and "down".

He did more then a good job at Vale, steered us clear of relegation in the 2018/19 season, played some of the best football I've seen a Vale team play in 60 years in the 2019/20 season when Vale would have very likely reached the play-offs, being the in-form team at the time. In the 20/21 season again played some excellent stuff got the team to 4th (?) in Nov. then the wheels fell off for some unknown reasons and the rest is history.

Hope he finds another job in football.
