Conlon Signs and Miller Cleared to Play

I was under the impression we were trying to improve the team by bringing in better players.

Dodds has become a worse player than when he was a bench warmer at Vale before.

He hasn’t played regular football for two years at Shrewsbury and Chesterfield were glad to find a mug to take him off their hands.

But there are still people with rose coloured specs saying he is going to score 10 to 15 goals.

If he is in the squad he will be taking the place of someone else who deserves a chance to shine.

Obviously Chesterfield didn’t expect him to score 10 to 15 goals or they would have kept him to play in the Conference.They are even paying him to play for us.

 

First year at Shrewsbury he was a regular. During the second half of that season they tried fitting him in to a conventional 442 with the predictable result that he ended moving between left, right and centre midfield with decreasing success. Last season wasn't pretty for him. I'm not a big Dodds fan so not whole heartedly in favour of his signing, but he's our player again. Not sure anyone has said he'll score 15 and he's only 31 so I doubt he's quite yet in terminal decline and becoming a worse player. Personal view is he is a talented, sometimes inconsistent players whose game isn't that well suited to a conventional 442. He has done well preseason.
