Grade 2 listed for the building, its drinkers have been known to list too.

Here's a funny story about the landlord Alan Ball.

He was/ is a big Stoke fan and has always been a bit of a lad,

He once got arrested at a Stoke game at the time when Alan Ball was manager.

Police, what's your name son?

Alan Ball.

Policeman, yes and I'm Georgie ******* Best.

I stick to ales, generally IPAs nowadays and I'm aghast thinking back at how I used to guzzle Stella Artois like there was no tomorrow. When they rang the bell for last orders, we'd automatically order 2 or 3 pints to drink over the intervening 10 minutes and the 20 mins drinking up time. It was stronger back then too.I think I'd die if I tried that now.

Joule's was always a favourite tipple of mine and thankfully you can now drink it again here and there.

Yes the Stone brewery was responsible for that fine ale. In my youth there were many good ales as well as some absolutely awful ones.....Double Diamond and Skol lager being two I can bring to mind.

I was reading about Double Diamond yesterday. I only remember seeing signs and adverts for it from before I was old enough to even think about drinking. Always associate it with dimpled pint mugs. Anyway, apparently they still make it and it's Prince Phillip's favourite beer. Only 2.8% though.

Probably twice as strong as Watneys Red Barrel. Nobody has mentioned Parkers of Burslem or Bents of Stone, nobodies favourites I suppose.
