It's strange how he still managed to make the bench for a couple of matches after he apparently sustained the injury on international duty.

Has been in my thoughts that maybe they don't want the appearances on their record, showing them to have been playing in a relegated team, but no way of telling. Either way, never seen so many before, & shame about Shodipo as he was one of our only remaining outlets.

Relegation seasons in the past have also coincided with lots of injuries. Unsettled team and second or third choice players not quite performing. Players getting rushed back too quickly to plug holes.

I think I favour this theory more than the "not wanting to play" theory.

 

Connected to this is the on-going question about why so many of the foreign players are not being picked by the Manager. No one seems to have suggested that there may be a clause in their contract that gives the club the chance to break the contract at the 12 month point if the player has not made a specified number of appearances. This type of break clause is not so uncommon, and could explain why some of them are so far away from getting a game. Just a simple theory but it could offer an explanation.

 

Some fans will remember that Brian Horton had such a situation with Andreas Lipa, the club had to re-negotiate the contract to get him back on the pitch. I know this is slightly off topic but it is strongly connected to the core point of which players we are getting out on the field of play.
