On a separate note. Congress voted by 1 vote for English instead of German to be the first language in America.

The First World War could have gone a whole lot different had that 1 vote gone the other way.

Also congress once voted by one vote for Hippos to not be imported and introduced into the wild in America. Congress must be nearly 50% idiots.

It wouldn't surprise me if English remained the main language in Europe, French and German are "dying" languages that's why the French/Germans get all uppity about "anglicisms" etc and English/American pop music etc. Eg, You can publish a Scientific paper in French or German these days but comparatively few people will read it hence virtually all Science is published in English apart from the odd obscure French or German journal which very few people read anyway, the abstracts of these papers are always written in English.
I was mainly talking about spoken languages, English as a written language is universal throughout the world.

the English language is universal, because we reached out and made it so, it was called imperialism. The thing about imperialism is everyone was doing it, England just happened to be the best at it...

"British workers should brace themselves for rising unemployment and falling real pay in the year ahead as the impact of a Brexit slowdown is increasingly felt in the jobs market, reports have warned.

The era of rapidly increasing employment is over, according to the forecasting group EY Item Club, which on Monday predicted the unemployment rate will rise from 4.7% now to 5.4% in 2018 and 5.8% in 2019.

At the same time, UK firms are planning to give workers a pay rise of just 1% over the next 12 months, sharply lower than the rate of inflation, which is 2.3% and expected to rise over coming months."
