Happy 24th Anniversary to the greatest footballing moment of my life when the Vale trounced the Sh.t 3:1 in the FA Cup. The hairs on the back of my neck still stand up as I recall that wet squally night when Goober smirked as he scored a scorcher with his wrong foot, Foley should have been sent off for the worst tackle ever on Aspo, Beeston likewise although made a mug of by King Ray, the shoulder charge by Cross for the equaliser, Super Swanny laughing as he cleared the ball stuck in the mud after a shot by donkey Regis, the glaring Miss from the normally reliable Taylor, the jinking run and shot from Jeffers which hit the bar and finally Tin Foyles run from deep in the last embers of the game to beat the goalie's last ditch lung to lift the ball into the back of the net for the third goal and to send the whole of the packed Vale park (bar the Sjoke end) into delirium. The after match celebrations were even better. Singing up the Hamil Road, people standing on the bonnets of their cars screaming with joy, honking of car horns. We, the traveling Valiants singing all the way over the Peaks on the way home including a stop in a Monyash pub where we regaled the locals with celebratory songs. A great great day. Great night of joy, myself,the wife and our 2 daughters walking back to the car after the game singing "one nil down,three one up,we knocked City out the cup" was music to the ears.
