We normally go Turkey every year too, but like you didn't fancy going there anymore with all the trouble etc. We ended Up going Sidari in Corfu this year. Lovely little place, plenty bars and restaurant, 3hrs on plane, and just over 1 hr on coach from airport to resort. We always book with Thomsons too, as not a fan of booking it all separate.

Yep we've been to sidari in Corfu, can recommend it.Also recommend Rivierra Maya in Mexico, although it's a 10 hour flight.

One of the best family holidays we had in Europe was at the Aguamarine Hotel in Arenal D'en Castell in Menorca, booked through Thompson although it was nearly 20 years ago now, hotel is tailored for kids and Arenal D'en Castell is lovely as is Menorca in general.

Don't be afraid to travel independently, book hotels through sites like Alphrooms (used them many times), Monarch, Travel Republic etc, book a hotel within ca 30-45 min taxi ride to keep the costs down. Book flights on Ryan Air, Easy Jet etc websites.

Consider going to Disney in Orlando, the kids are at the right age and will remember it forever. Thomas Cook fly Manch to Orlando non-stop, book hotels on the above sites or on Hotels.com etc. Have a week in Orlando and a week on the Gulf Coast. Hotels in the US are usually priced per room not per person and Disney is magic for kids and adults.

Also consider staying in a villa on the outskirts of the theme parks which are also priced on on the actual residence and not per person. You will also need to hire a car but you are much more independent with this option.

Cape Verde was great. Especially Thompson with the Hotels they offer. It has to be all-inclusive. No chance of terrorists there as it is literally a desert Island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

I used to manage holiday reps out there for TUI, heavily recommend either of the two commercial islands, Boa Vista and Sal (the former is slightly less commercial).

Also a spot of island hopping, harder with kids but Fogo, Sai Vicente and Santiago are sensational.

Had a great two weeks in Boa Vista a few years ago at the Hotel Riu Karamboa.

Can you remember what year? Smashing hotel. I was there in 2012 and 13.

The best thing about the islands are the joy of the locals / west Africans.

February,2011 REP,we went there two months after my retirement and the staff were wonderful.Never forget going on the morning beach walk across the dunes to Boa Vista and when we got there two male members of the group were told by police officers to put there T-shirts back on!!It became rather hot after lunch so we came back in a taxi.

We had a good holiday on Sal 4 years ago at the 'Melia Tortuga hotel'...owned by a business man from Leeds!!

Had his own jet and a home in Monaco😎

Agree with your sentiments. Unfortunately it also has lousy weather.

That depends what you want; hot sunny weather just makes me want to head indoors and I can't stand lazing around on a beach or by a pool. Give me bracing wind, cool weather, even a bit of rain any time...nothing as atmospheric as camping overnight in the rain
