For the first time in my life I felt like going down to the opposition dugout and wacking him with my brolly, hewas offensive for the whole ninety minutes and when we equalised the ground errupted with " You fat ba****d " it was a fitting end, horrible management and awful non league stuff, constantly claiming a foul and the ref seemed only to eager to oblige.

This is why we need so badly to get out of this league. It's increasingly full of former non-leagues sides that bring all their bad habits with them. What is it now, 13 or so former league clubs with great traditions and pedigree in the Conference? God forbid we ever end up there - it's a dungeon and it would take some getting out of, if ever. I never thought I'd hear myself say it, but it makes me wonder whether promotion between L2 and Conference was ever a good idea. L1 seems like Nirvana and the quicker we get there, the better.

Sorry, Cambridge Don, but I totally disagree with you over promotion from the Conference. Those of us with long memories will recall the bad old days of the Old Pals' Act when very poor sides could finish bottom of Div 4 year after year but were voted back in every year at the Football League annual meeting, while well-run, go-ahead non-league clubs were denied their rightful place in the League.

 

I know I would rather see AFC Wimbledon in there than Franchise FC at Milton Keynes. Just because we don't like Crawley, how they are run and financed doesn't mean we should block the ambitions of clubs who fairly and squarely work their way up the football pyramid, but then my home town is Macclesfield and I am still proud of their achievement.
