European 'Super' (in money terms) League

Recommended Posts

It's finally started. I've been predicting it for years and, unfortunately, it looks like I may have been right when I'd much prefer to be wrong.....

If anything will kill our beloved sport as we know it, it's this. Yet more Americanisation following their 'sports entertainment' model. I don't hate America or Americans but I do hate how we seem to follow their way of doing things, as a European I value the European way of life and our history and I particularly love the depth of strength in European football where many nations have high quality leagues. I don't want to go down the American route of franchise clubs, no away fans and an immense gulf between the TV league and, for example, college leagues or local leagues.

I'm not a Luddite but I can't see this as progress. Let's hope, pray or anything else that it doesn't happen!

I have always expected a Euro super league of the 20 richest clubs in Europe. They would still operate in their current leagues with feeder teams. Thus getting the best or cream of both worlds. Completely wrecking the game, but money rules football as it does the world.
