Collective nouns

Some of them are quite funny some not so funny. To kick things off...

 

A murder of crows

A romp of otters

A cauldron of bats

As shadow of jaguars

A cattleload of Syrian refugees

An embarrassment of prejudices

I read a lot of the now closed refugee thread with interest. Sadly, the interest was not on the topic of immigration and refugees, but how pathetic some of the posters are.

 

Yes, a lot of what Carl had to say was wrong, but some of what he said will no doubt prove right. Equally, some of the things said by others are right, but a lot will prove wrong.

 

Isn't this how the whole situation in the middle-East started, with one group or individual feeling their views are right and hence the persecution of anyone who disagreed began?

 

Carl is a WUM and clearly has some quite extreme passions and views, but they are HIS views and just because a certain little click of people disagreed, it's doesn't give them the right to behave as they did and turn the whole thing into a witch-hunt.

 

Rob was absolutely right in closing the thread and ban people for offensive comments, but there are other posters who deserve similar treatment for their provocative comments and personal abuse.

 

It clear on here that none of us, educated or not, have any idea about the problems the world is facing, regardless of how many fancy words we string to our views. We should stick to moaning about our special football club.

 

The fact that someone felt it necessary to start another thread to further satisfy their ego proves my point perfectly.

Carl doesn't really have extreme views' he just ran out of ideas, got depeserate and went too far. It was a very clever wind up whilst he kept it up

The sad thing about it all is that it is the ordinary people who are suffering. The control of oil and gas, with religion thrown in, between the autocrats of the Middle East, the US, and Russians will not be easily solved. With our reduced military we have little say. Conflicts have been going on since the WW1 break-up of the Ottoman Empire, and if Palestine is anything to go by will last a long time. It could well affect the cohesion of Europe which has been relatively stable since WW2, as Churchill said " Jaw, Jaw is better than War, War. That is only in general terms, the detail will be argued for ever, way past my life span.
