Tom Pope

There were many reasons why we did OK in Tom Pope's absence the main one being the effort that the team put in after Micky Adams departure. Which made it abundantly clear that several players weren't big fans of him.

After that we tended to grind out wins rather than play dynamically but this is a results game. Play well but lose and the team gets slated but win scruffily and the world is great.

Really who? I'd like those idiots shipped out of our club as none have been as successful as Adams was for us.

willo covered well in popes absence, its just a pity that with his pace he does not pick better runs, we discussed this on saturday en-route, when was his last one on one with a keeper ?

Despite not being a Willo fan, I thought he had his best game for a while on Saturday. Epitomised by the run to dispossess the Coventry defender in the 2nd half and take some pressure off the team at the right time.

I see all these points about work-rate and pace. He is quicker than our other attackers, but I wouldn't say he was lightning quick. As for his work-rate, it's there right up until the last thing he needs to do after he's closed the opposition player down, which is to actually challenge the ****** player! He challenges the player well about 10% of the time, the rest of the time it's a pretty weak attempt. He's a decent league 1 player when the work-rate is there. Without it, you're just looking at a player who doesn't have the 1st touch or finishing for this level.

Nothing to do with how much he earns or doesn't. I'm talking about how he plays, how hard he works and what he brings to the team. Nothing else matters after they walk on to the pitch.

Surely wage does come into it, that's the reason we just got rid of Lines he was on a good wage and under performing.

So Williamson didn't play well Saturday?

And with the wage Tom Pope is on he should be doing it more consistently would you not agree?

I would pay Tom pope that wage just for getting us out of league two the other season. He deserves whatever wage he's on for the pittance he was on before he bagged 33+ in a season

But you can't live on what someone did 2 years ago otherwise Adams would have a 20 year contract, McDonald and McCoombe would still be our first choice centre half pairing and Burge would be keeping O'Connor out of our side.

You get paid what you are worth and although I think he deserves a new contract I would have to say it should be on a smaller contract.

This argument in regard of Tom Pope's wage is absolutely ridiculous because none of you know how much he actually earns. Get off his back and just be glad that we have a player with a good scoring record and works his socks off. Yes he has the odd off day but who doesn't but even then I've never seen him stop trying.

Thanks for that. I take it you know his wage? Also he's our top scorer this season and for the last two. He deserves what he gets paid.

People report that he's on between 3-5k, that's far too much for a player of popes ability, regardless of how good he was in the promotion season. Anyway you said we should pay pope whatever he wants after getting us promoted, that would be completely unstable. Isn't he joint top with Williamson? Should be we pay him far too much as well?

He didn't try against Oldham... Nobody is having a go now, the point was made that whatever he is on he's worth it, clearly it's unstable for the club as smurf has said on many occasions.
