Cost wise, would it actually be more economical to rent a house (largish, 3 bed semi for 6 months) rather than pay a hotel bill for 3/4 people?

The North Stafford isn't great and the George is a hovel which I wouldn't leave my dog in. Look at the photos and reviews on Trip Advisor and speak to someone who's stayed at the N Staffs or has been unfortunate enough to endure the George. Pity because they're both nice buildings.

It's a shame that the George has gone downhill so much, I remember staying there in the 70's and it was a lovely hotel.

By the way, what kind of diet would these loan players be on whilst staying at any hotel in the area?

I agree it's a shame about how the George has declined & the North Stafford is a shadow of its former self but it's the result of poor management and lack of investment over a long period of time. There's a dearth of decent hotels in the Potteries area which has made it easy for Premier Inns to build their new hotel in Hanley. Good luck to them, in my experience they offer decent clean rooms at decent prices - and they're consistent so you know what to expect.

 

Good question about diet; good chance it'll be plenty of full fried breakfasts, lard filled oatcakes and chippy teas!

i'm very pleased that you've answered this thread Norman and put the rumours to rest. I know that in the past some players have stayed with supporters and their families. Possibly the Supporters Club could compile a list of those willing to help in this way and even vet the accommodation offered.
