Daily Mail and geography

That wonderful vehicle of truth, information, and accuracy The Daily Mail has excelled itself in the glittering Mail travel section where it lists the 5 best ports in Western Europe :-

So the Mail have given Lisbon to Spain - and yes, it is the right Lisbon as it mentions the 1755 earthquake and many other things about the capital of PORTUGAL.

I'm sure the good people of Lisbon will be delighted to start to learn Spanish, and forget about supporting Sporting Lisbon and flock to see Real Madrid and Barcelona (well, at least until Catalonia is freed).

What a shocking mistake for a national newspaper to make in a specialised travel article. No wonder people can't believe anything else they print.

I don't for a second think that JA really believes that the Mail is our best paper, whatever his politics.

Of course, 'best' is different things to different people, but thankfully we do have one or two quality newspapers, that cover things in far more detail and depth and with quality and insight that none of the tabloids (again regardless of political stance) get even close to.

The Mail have not had the courtesy to reply to my email pointing out their error, which I still contend is rather more than just a bad mistake in the context of a specialised travel article.

I do indeed think it's the best..but no one has bothered to ask me why I think that...hey ho. Obviously a knee jerk reaction is easier than asking why.

I am sure they get 1000s of emails every day so it may take time to respond, if they can be bothered to.

How kind of you to ask ;)

Mainly its coverage of...sports, medical issues, financial, humour, political matters (esp it's exposures of underhand behaviour)..I don't agree with much of its politics but that doesn't prevent it form being an interesting read (Heffer, Hitchin..even Littlejohn occasionally)

But it's just one of several that i read..just happens to be the best for what i am looking for from a newspaper

I've always felt the Mail and Express have the best layout of all the papers, and the writing style is more middle of the road(not a flippant as some of the red tops and not as posh as the Times, Independent etc).

Which is why I have the Express, I don't necessarily agree with the politics and opinions of either as JA says. In fact the Express's weather headlines are hilarious imo and frequently wrong(such is the British weather perhaps) which makes me laugh!

One of the two(Mail/Express) I can't remember which used to have a bit of an Diana obsession as well?!

I'm not a fan of the sensationalist approach the Mail takes- and that's before I get started on their politics.

I'll stick with the Guardian and the Times, although the Times less so since they started to charge for their online service

Don't have time to read a daily paper these days but occasionally get the "i" newspaper as it gives you up to date news snippets. Always buy The Observor on a Sunday and read it bit by bit until about Tue/Wed evening. ....

Really can't warm to The Mail or The Express , the layout, print, sensationalist ***** that they write about, can't be doing with either. Use The Mail on line facility for the sport though to be fair.

I like the i too- it's great if I take the 45- 50 minute train journey into Manchester alone
