Why we buy foreign players.

For Us All

Luke Shaw's recent transfer to Man.Utd for £30m seems to give certain managers the perfect excuse to buy from abroad.

Overpriced or justified.

Views and opinions please.

Adam Lallana also expected to sign for Liverpool for £25m in the coming days, with Bournemouth getting £6.25m as part of the deal.It will be interesting to see how the new Dutch manager of the Saints replaces Lambert,Shaw and Lallana?

But we have to ask why are they so rare? IMO the FA needs a complete overhaul I think they are holding England's young talent back.

The FA has need an overhaul for 40 years. It won't happen and I wonder what percentage of English players will be playing in the Premier League four years from now.

Question is what can the FA do?

They could try an impose quotas but what PL clubs will agree to that if it reduces their chance of staying in the PL or qualifying for the CL..if they are forced to buy inferior players just cos they are English with the the top 3-4 clubs hiving off all the best English players?

We need more ENglish players coming thru the youth ranks and then being given the chance to show what they can do..for me that latter is the hard bit, will they get the chance to show what they can do. We need more players to go and play overseas where they will et games and the chance to show what they can do

Is there a link between the increase of foreign managers in the premiership and foreign signings? just wondering ...

There might be ... it all linked to the same issue.

Academies:

Before then players were given a chance to make mistakes in the first team, go out on loan, get expierence and come back better players or leave and make a living lower down the ladder with a few hundred or so games under their belt. Now what happens is that the academies swallow up all the local talent, pool them together, coach them to death and then spit them out aged 20 with no experience of any professional football. The young players can't get into the first teams becuase they are full of highly paid internationals and the share prices will be affected if 17 year old Johnny Briggs makes a dodgy pass and lets the opposition's Ivory Coast striker in to score. So all these young players end up playing in the lower leagues slugging it out on scrappy pitches wondering what the hell went wrong while the Premiership clubs keep buying in foreign talent **** the box of having an academy.

Newcastle, Man City and Man Yoo all used to have excellent youth development. The latter won the title with kids - this will not happen again. When a young English player comes onto the scene they are immediately in contention to play for the national side with less than two seasons experience. How on earth can they be expected to compete internationally if they've only played a couple of seasons of pro-football. Academies should have a maximum size number to make sure players get a chance of progression.

What to do? Easy - each team must pick five players who have been at the club since before they were 18 in each starting 11. On the other side I'd ban international transfers of players under the age of 18 - this might have already been done? Which will stop teams like Arsenal buying children from other countries.

The Premiership

Stop this "parachute payment" nonsense. Teams which are relegated should not be rewarded for failure because they might have over spent. If clubs are to obey the financial fair play then there is no reason to have this anymore. The TV money is horrendous and if The Premiership is supposed to support the whole of the national game then perhaps the FA should levy a tax on the clubs for them to invest in the rest of the league and lower. I'm sure some of the teams in the lower end of the pro game would like a windfall of £10,000 per season - that's a mornings work for Suarez btw.

Foreign Manager

The most difficult of problems and one which will continue to make the England Manager position more and more pointless. When the next best England manager is Tony Pulis then this is wrong - not a swipe at TP, more that a team rescued from relegation is the next best. Why? Maybe its qualifications? Maybe its the foreign owners?

The FA

They are supposed to be the governing body. Failed. Disband them and reconstruct. Tell the Premiership what will be happening rather than letting them run the game. Force them to implement a career path for young footballers rather than just letting the Premiership screw it up - see my point about academies. Hey and make the FA Cup a way into the Champions League.

A bigger concern is the number of players not qualified to play for England in the Youth ranks of English football/academies, if we think its bad at the moment for the national team give it another 5-10 years. Has to be some type of quota system at all levels.

Could they become qualified to play for England though?

I don't know the rules but if a French lad comes thru the ranks at say Arsenal is there any point at which he becomes eligible for England..residence and all that. Or does something exclude him..like playing at under 17/19 level for France? the FA could be proactive here if there are possibilities.

Obvioulsy it would be 'better' if english lads got those places but if it's about making the England team better..?

Simple, the solution is to follow the German blueprint which is a proven success after their failure in Euro 2000.They decided to do something about it though, which is highly unlikely with our FA.The Germans decided to increase the proportion of academy players which were eligible to play for their country to a minimum of 12 players in each intake and it has taken them to where they are now,a world force. The problem with our FA is,will they have the bottle to take on the Premier League?
