our club has no ambition

Recommended Posts

As I see it Norm would have been better to take no notice. After all between him & Micky we're in a far better place than several years ago.

My take Baz would be to take notice and listen but remember it's only an opinion on a fans website, a reply was not needed, he'll be having a go at guess the crowd next...:D

Sadly so in this crass day and age as modern football testifies in the main.

The progress and ambition the club has made/shown is unsustainable without massive cash injections.

Thats what you do if you want to achieve it quickly, thats not ambition thats buying advancement, throwing money at what some perceive as progress... we cant do that, we shouldnt do that.

Ambition isnt just about going up a league, its about simpler things than that... increasing ST sales next year, making the club profitable, catering for families better than we do now, and all the other smaller things that build the club... sure set a goal... to reach the championship in 3-5-10 years but achieve it by sustained, steady, growth and stability... not boom and bust.... have the ambition to achieve the goal and the determination, skill, stamina and patience to work for it.

As I said at the beginning of this thread... I think we do have ambition... we could debate forever if that ambition is enough to satisfy everyone... I think what we lack is the ability to achieve that ambition... at the moment.

Some have suggested smurf needs to throw money at vale... I would disagree, in fact I think it would be an absolute disaster if he did, simply because he wouldnt/couldnt/shouldnt maintain that input year after year... he may have to invest some money but thats not quite the same as spending it.

Should he have responded?... No I dont think he should, simply because its a discussion between fans about their club, similar discussion take place in pubs, matches etc. If he responded to all such discussions he would once again be spending far to much time on the internet/social media sites etc... the simple fact is that he did respond to it which further fuels the debate and polarises opinions...

From a PR perspective its far better to release a statement that disproves the suggestion without mentioning it than state what the suggestion is and deny it.... A general statement to show we have ambition/how far we have progressed to date and where we hope to go is far better than highlighting the opinion we have no ambition... but as a fail safe... if in doubt say nowt.

I like the fact that he has responded to the thread on the website. He is clearly in touch with what we are saying, and if he wasn't, he would be criticised by some for that as well. He is working hard on our behalf, and has put us back on an even keel after years of financial dysfunction at the club. There is a passion about Norman which I think suits us well - he says it like he sees it, and when he finally walks away from the club, I think history will record he was a force for good at Vale. Hopefully his hard work will be supported, we'll get some players in, and have another good season.

Hopefully signings will arrive in the next month or so. I've never encountered a team starting a season with a squad of 15 and I'm 90% sure we won't either. Players stop getting paid as of Tuesday so our manager can use his many years of experience and wisdom to bring together a competitive squad as of August 9th.
