Mark Innes

I was doing some subcontracting at a paint production plant in Oldham when a gentleman sat next to me with Mark Innes on his high viz jacket. I asked my site contact who informed me it was the same Mark Innes who used to be a professional footballer and i remember playing a few games at the vale.

He's working as a packer nowadays on the end of a production line.

He linked well with Mickey Bell when they were both at the club, Bell would bomb on, Innes would sit back. One of the better wing partnerships we've had IMO

He was absolute c**p. Missed a sitter once at Chesterfield I remember. One of many forgettable footballers we had around that time. Wouldn`t recognise him in an identity parade.

Tend to agree with that assessment, and think he should have been sent packing earlier than he was.

He was an OK squad player. Neither stand out good not bad. Didn't have any pace though. I remember him laying on a goal for Nathan Lowndes at Southend.

Blimey just goes to show some footballers aren't always made for life after leaving the game.

To be fair, there aren't a great deal of jobs out there. There are a lot of very bright, qualified people who are struggling to follow their chosen career path so they take what they can to pay the bills. We don't know what Mark's individual circumstances are.

We got through of our fair share of mediocre midfielders in that early noughties (2001-2010) era:

Paul Byrne

Sean McClare

Ashley Dodd

Phil Charnock

Mark Boyd

Daryl McMahon

Mark Salmon

David Howland

Neil McKenzie

Dave Brammer (MK II)

Ross Davidson

Scott Brown

Paul Marshall (MK I)

You only thing you need is the ability to chat ****, and tell people what they want to hear. It gets you a long way :)
