Just a quick peek at Hughes goal record tells anyone why he and Pope are our best front pairing. His fitness is 1st class. If the service from the wings were better we would get a hat full. Sorry but for me Mohammed is a bench warmer at best. OK he has pace but doesn't use it.

Lee Hughes is class. He will notch 20+ goals in this league even at his age if he starts every week.

He left Notts County because he wanted to play every week and fell out with Curle. I really hope he is in our plans and one of the first names on the teamsheet because if he isnt we will regret it big time.

Pope did superb last year but Hughesy is the best striker we have at the club in my opinion.

Him and Pope really compliment each other, contrary to the myth that they cannot play together.

I wish he would take those strides a little more trying to keep the ball in play. He was shown up as rather idle by several other Vale players who worked their nuts off for the cause.

Hughes has to start every game if fit. He will get at least 1 goal every 3 games. Feed Pope and Hughesy and they will score.

How did referee, linesman and 4th official all fail to see Hughes's head being stamped on?

 

Absolute disgrace. Bradford dished out most of the rough stuff and we ended up with three booked to their one.

Bradford fans on their forum moaning what a dirty side Vale were and that the ref was biased towards Vale!

 

They missed the elbows, the blatant penalty, the stamping on Hughes, the constant wrestling of Pope etc..etc..

Deserved 3pts in a very hard fought game. Dicko my MOTM but Hughes & Robertson ran him close. Good goal from Loft but if he wants the play in the centre more he needs to stop giving the ball away. Thought there'd be more than 5200 Vale fans there today though.

A good win against Bradford and the ref. With some more luck with bobbles and deflections and some better finishing it could've been more.

 

And Colchester drew with Sheffield utd as well, so obviously aren't quite the cart horses some people thought

There was a prime example in the second half. He was going down the wing and had the beating of the right back. If he'd maintained his pace he'd have beaten him and been clear on goal. Instead he checked back and put a nonsensical cross in that was easily cleared.

 

For goodness sake why doesn't he take defenders on?
