  1. I like Darren Moore. I think we have also brought in some other coaching staff of a higher level than we had before. The job they are faced with is very difficult presently. It is rare that a manager can save a team that is in and around relegation and fundamentally struggling at the level. For example Burnley and Sheffield Utd. Too much unravels at once in each game. Maybe we survive likely we don't. The key to success next season at L1 or L2 is give him better players. We all know that.
  2. We can't find solace in the results these last few months and concluding we are irrevocably worse than the teams we are competing with to stay up. I know I lack as much confidence as the team, but the way to win enough games to get the points required is to focus on the correctable. Stop giving away goals through poor marking at set pieces, take our chances in front of goal, get our best players on the ball in attacking areas and develop a resilient robust and determined midfield. This is not rocket science and therefore it is possible through correct application. Some call it back to basics. Others a team that becomes better than the sum of it's parts.
  3. If PV owners have the financial resources then surely the current crop of senior players must be moved on irrespective of their contract situations in order to be promotion candidates in L2 or to improve in L1 if we stay up. There is no other way except to languish in the bottom reaches of L2 on gates of 4k etc.
  4. We must win this game. I know that is obvious, but it should affect the tactics. We could manage 6-7 bookings for example.
  5. I don't think Carol and associates are quitters. Unless a profit on investment opportunity arises that persuades them in association with a wealthy philanthropic new owner. A lot of money has been put into the club dragging it up from a dilapidated stadium and pitch to something nearing smart. In life terms if I'd done that I would not ditch everything but be determined to leave a positive legacy that can endure. Although we got promoted the management of the off field side of the football team hasn't been good enough for L1. It won't become good enough on return to L2 either. I'm hoping that Darren Moore can turn this around given sufficient resources. I like him and think he knows his stuff. So I'll give him a good go next season. But the bottom line is I'm not up for supporting ticking over near the bottom of L2. I will have paid for season tickets but stop coming if that is where we are headed. I'm not a young or middle aged person anymore who can have a 20 year perspective.
  6. I have booked my train tickets so I don't flake on Good Friday.
  7. I am not going to attack Moore. I thought there was a run of games under Crosby post New Year where we'd hold our own and get enough points to stay up. But we didn't and kept losing. This has added new dimensions to our problems. The team is now completely shot of confidence. The team must hate playing at home. Moore is faced with a very difficult position. What do you do when you hype everyone one up and the captain passes the ball to the opposition in front of an open goal after 2 mins!
  8. I don't know what can be done with a defence that keeps making exactly the same mistakes and attackers that don't score. Ultimately they just aren't good enough at L1 level and drilling them on the training pitch won't work. Crosby or Moore or anyone else - it doesn't matter.
  9. I feel I should apologise to Crosby because he rightly assessed the squad. His tactics were to minimise the deficit of the team at L1 level. It didn't work. Moore is encountering an even worse problem caused by the Jan window and the loss of our good on loan players. Surely Darren and his team would only come to Port Vale if there is a clear route to improvement. That likely comes down to increasing the player budget and bringing in better players.
  10. I'm clear on one other thing - assuming we don't have a miracle and get relegated. The club has wrecked the senior players. The loss of confidence they have suffered is permanent. The fear of playing on their own pitch in front of their own fans is overwhelming and irrecoverable. Hence to be a successful club again wholesale changes are needed and only the younger players can be made good again by way of excellent coaching.
  11. The old editing skills have deserted me! But with our current strike force our best possible result at Burton is a nil nil draw which of course is not enough. Also in itself improbable because the usual whoops we left someone unmarked in our box defending at set pieces will happen after about 15 mins first half and again a few minutes after half time. Hence through our transfer dealings we have arrived with a team that can't attack and can't defend. Wild stuff happens as well. Like kick the ball to their centre forward with our goalkeeper stood over by the corner flag. Loft through on goal, he must score mustn't he, no he tamely kicks the ball out for a goal kick.
  12. This is not the only reason. But... We seem to me to have been unprepared to commit to signing a proven lower league goal scorer and paying the wages needed. What we have ended up doing instead is signing / resigning three strikers who rarely score. Surely they cost a lot in wages too! Hence we pose little threat up front, never get ahead in games and our defensive weaknesses shine through.
  13. I was not able to go today. But I expected to concede goals from set pieces and unfortunately the usual wording this season and last turned up in my Sky app at broadly the times I expected. I'm of the view that many of the current players are not good enough for L1 even if we do somehow stay up. I've given them loads of chances, but I can't sustain arguments to contra now. Because they are not good enough probably even Klopp couldn't turn this around, but I do have a relevant observation. That is Liverpool have been forced to play a lot of young players in key games recently and everyone has been waiting for the loses to come. But they haven't, and what has emerged instead is a very strong squad indeed. Port Vale may be able to replicate the youngsters coming through aspect of this. I hope so, because at the end of the season surely whether under contract or not a large chunk of the senior players must leave. I'm frightened to say that because our signings record is so bad much worse could be recruited and we could see ourselves battling to stay in L2. I looked at the Oldham result today and noticed they have James Norward playing up front. I know he is well into his 30's but how can it be that Oldham has a prolific lower league goal scorer and we don't? So yes, there is a big recruitment issue covering the last 3 windows. Let's put it at 25% good and 75% bad when what we seek is the opposite. Will it get better - why should it unless there is complete change? Next season, no matter what happens in the next few weeks, I have decided to renew our season tickets. But I will stop coming to games if the start of the season indicates a further dire campaign. Meanwhile I hope that ultimately Darren Moore, and what looks like a much stronger coaching team, will ultimately move the club forward and get us back, one way or another, to being a solid L1 club. There is an awful lot of supporter faith in the above and a lack of clear objective evidence on the ground that things will turn out well.
  14. I reporting this to the police.
  15. Yes. Whoever created this thread has personal issues. Motivated by vendetta. I have abosulety no respect at all for people who go on about David Flitcroft. All low IQ lacking business or sporting experience. Or simply pissed.
  16. Went to - Montrose 4 Alloa 3 - today. My Scottish team is Montrose. I remembered how attacking play and good finishing works! I mean good finishing by both teams. Frankly it made me realise how poor we are in attack. But nonetheless, we still have a chance to stay up. Shrewsbury game needs to be won. Simple as that.
  17. I'm inspired by this in a strange way.
  18. I fear we are going to get fundamentally stuffed. Unless under pressure Darren Moore does something profound beforehand Either way, Support Darren.
  19. Many good points . Need to work on the finishing.
  20. Wigan made changes at half time because they needed 3 goals in 45 minutes. They overloaded their attack and by playing well mounted sustained pressure from kick off. If a team has a high percentage of possession they tire the opposition out. We needed to change tactics. Stop kicking long all the time when it was just giving the ball away. We needed to do some playing out from the back and we needed to make the play fragmented including by way of buying cheap fouls. The team was significantly weaker after the PV second half subs - but still Loft should score. So we blew it yet again late in the second half. Been doing that a lot this season. I think Darren Moore has a he'll of a job on his hands.
  21. Look, you are missing the obvious. Machine guns. This is a constructive suggestion because it's not only a barrier it will reduce the number of opposition players and give us more attacking opportunities. More seriously, this game is the last we need. We only lost 1-0 at home, but we were nonetheless badly beaten. What concerned me most in that game was Derby's physical conditioning was much better. They were stronger, faster and more aggressive. Darren Moore will need to be a miracle worker to get a result from this one.
  22. I am 100% happy with Darren Moore. He's clearly a light years better manager than Crosby. He's finding it difficult to turn this round, but I'm staying with him. It looks more likely than not we will need to mount a comeback from L2. He's the man to do that in my opinion.
  23. The subs - all of them - were fatal for us last night. We were doing OK with our strategy despite pressure. Lowe for Ojo is a massive step down.
