  1. If the formation we are playing worked properly, our strikers as is would be able to stay in the areas needed to score goals. That is Darren Moore's first challenge for me. Chislett wouldn't have to come off after an hour having run a half marathon. Wilson wouldn't run round waiting for the ball to arrive. Loft would be directly in front of goal and not shooting from 40 yards. Dipepa would learn to make the right runs.
  2. Watching the Crystal Palace v Chelsea game last night. In the build up there was a few minutes looking at Bayer Leverkusen. Relevance you say! They play the same formation as PV (on paper), they are top of the Bundesliga and last week beat Bayern Munich 3-0. Alonso, the manager is favourite to replace Klopp at Liverpool. The keys to this, aside from good players, stem from the whole team front to back playing within 15 yards out of possession. Then in possession the 5 at the back becomes 4 with a member of the back 5 going into midfield and getting on the ball. Therefore not pointlessly stuck with the ball at the back or launching it. Also not getting the wingbacks isolated when the opposition attack. Hence we big time need to improve this formation and how it works. They're a good example to start from.
  3. Yes, my commitment to him was partly because I thought Darren Moore was an unrealistic target. But obviously I'm pleased to be wrong.
  4. Yes, exactly. Stability and commitment.
  5. This is an excellent appointment. Welcome Darren. It's a big challenge to keep us up. But even if we went down I think we would have a person who could then lead a promotion challenge.
  6. Port Vale has no rights over the Peterborough scoreboard and tannoy system. The only expectation is the away team is read out. If PV manage to score then who scored. Meanwhile, there are complete rights over the PV presence on the Internet. Announcing the PV manager before tomorrow may be necessary if they will be at the game tonight and identified anyway.
  7. Yes, that's a thought. The new manager being good at DIY because there is a small club budget could be the crucial differentiator in deciding the appointment.
  8. If we win, he took office at 7pm. If we lose, he took office at 10pm.
  9. Don't mention that women. Nightmare!!!!!!! There are never enough exclamation marks with her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Yes, that's right. There is definitely a barrier at transition that can lead to failure. I thought Clarke found his limitation at Port Vale as has Crosby at L1 level. When they come up against better managers they lose.
  11. I agree with a lot of what you say. You can imagine Chelsea may keep on Thiago Silva if they can and he wants to go into coaching. But there is a degree of absoluteness about this aside from access. That is the environment is first class and therefore the exposure to learning as a coach is first class. If you take it. So if Thiago Silver could coach Nathan Smith for a few weeks my assertion is that he'd be a 20% better player. Meanwhile Crosby who played at a similar level will only have the bog standard coaching manual to draw on. Of course there are outliers here. Klopp being an obvious one. But he'll be replace most likely by Alonso who was a top player.
  12. His long work in youth team football at big clubs including Man City is highly compatible with Port Vale. Port Vale will have to pay an attractive and competitive salary. Clearly with his background he could easily go back to coaching at the youth team level which will pay well and also compete for other manager jobs. Although I have no adverse thoughts on Darren Moore, I think the fact he has managed at Championship level clubs makes him less compatible to Port Vale than Kennedy. The question of why come to Port Vale needs a convincing answer.
  13. I'm a night person. But unfortunately this time I've got some sort of head cold as well.
  14. Hope ur joking m8! Bratt was a liar. We just need to stay up this season, no more gannon-like appointments please, although im not sure i trust flitcroft to make decisions for the love of the vale, and i think he has hoodwinked carol Carol runs a company that specialises in counter fraud work. For example the National Fraud Initiative in conjunction with the Civil Service / Cabinet Office.
  15. That club was financially stuffed and following insolvency has rebooted in the Northern Premier League. Obviously you don't then get a job at Lincoln City without being credible. But hey, I'm expressing some positivity about this guy, but I ain't ready to die in a ditch for him. If he comes good, if he doesn't other candidates bar one are acceptable. We all (of sufficient age to have been at the requisite game) know who the 'Unacceptable One' is.
  16. He managed 70 games at Lincoln. When sacked they were 16th but 5 points only off the playoffs (trusting the Irish Times with that one). He seems to have been sacked at least in part for off the field reasons. He stepped away from his Macclesfield management job post suspension of play re covid. By then the viability of that club was in doubt with points deductions and relegation to the National League. He refused a new contract. Kennedy has played for and coached at top clubs. Our last manager can't claim that and nor could Clarke really. A bit unfair as he has gained promotions. So his management journey could be well poised with Port Vale looking just right for him.
  17. I am on the Kennedy bus now. He's worked at top clubs bringing youth players through. That's what we need. I think he should be fine coaching and managing our first team. Because he is an upward trajectory sort of candidate I would expect he is likely closer to our salary budget than someone wanting to sustain Championship level pay.
  18. His last major under achievement was to lose 3-0 at Fleetwood. I thought that was the final straw and so it proved to be. If he worked in an accounting firm he'd be sacked for posting debits in the credits column.
  19. The Vale all ran off down the tunnel and didn't watch what Stevenage's coaching team were doing. They were straight on to highlights of the first half. You could see this in the Lorne Street stand. Then the subs come on. They of course identified our 3 CDs and 2WBs as inflexible. Targeted the LWB and easily scored 2 goals with him isolated and the CDs standing there in front of goal immobile. It is truly stunningly boring watching us make the same mistakes over and over again with this inept formation. I don't blame the temporary management team as what are they supposed to do in the time available and with limited authority to change things.
  20. I'd heard he'd joined British Airways as a pilot. With auto pilot you don't need to do much these days. Less complex than controlling 25 human beings chasing after a ball.
  21. Without being rude, how do you know? He looks a good fit with extensive experience of coaching youth teams at big clubs before giving senior management a go.
  22. Can track Martin Foyle's career since leaving Port Vale on Wiki. He's stayed in football in coaching and recruitment roles moving between a lot of clubs. He is currently at St Mirren as Head of Recruitment. You can see from his career path he never wants to be a first team manager again. They have 'on the pitch staff' and 'off the pitch staff'. His role is listed in 'off the pitch'.
  23. From the top half of L1 upwards to the bottom of the Premier League is a turbulent environment. Big clubs yes. But, in the Championship, there are 21 expensive failures. Stoke City are possibly moving presently from failure to big failure. Viz. Relegation to L1. QPR coming for them. So looking at Stoke City. 20k fans at games, but they seem destined for decades at Championship or L1. How will they get back to the Premier League. So what of Port Vale. Success would be a consistently secure L1 side. At worse a club that would be confident of coming back from L2 if relegated. This is realistic. We need another 10k fans at least just to reach the zone of failure Stoke are in. Is that better?
