We mustn't under rate or over rate Exeter. They've done the business by beating sides we needed beaten - Burton, Shrewsbury and Cheltenham. They also beat Stevenage at home by a goal and salvaged a draw at Orient. Drew at home to improved Charlton. So I'd expect them to be competitive. But they are not world beaters and applying ourselves we have reasonable prospects of winning - at least by way of not making errors in defence.

We also may have Ojo injured in midfield. To me the team has to be put back in correct order. Too many players playing out of best position. Garrity is our top scorer and needs to play as a forward. Chislett has scored and needs to play as a forward. Dipepa must play. I accept Loft has to start as striker. Ok, so that appears to leave a hollowed out midfield. Weir has to come in and hopefully show he is good enough. Then Walters has to take his chance as well. I'm worried re tackling with that midfield in which case Massey has to go in there. I'm so disorientated with this season, I can't even remember what position Plant is supposed to play in when he isn't filling in for someone. Out of a complete shambles success may sometimes emerge if an individual somewhere has a great performance! But the answer to anything is not Jones who was not fit last time I saw him. The answer could be Mighten, because at least I think he has good ability if he can be fitted in well. Perhaps most of all on Saturday and Tuesday. Orient v Exeter on Tuesday interesting. Orient winning 2-0 but Exeter score in the 88th and 92nd mins to draw 2-2. The stats given are really odd. Orient 3 shots and 2 on target for goals. Exeter 16 shots and 5 on target. I think the stats have got swapped round in error.

Wilson has been injured too often and not scored enough goals for a regularly selected forward in 2023/24. Although his overall distance run is good enough when playing, I think he plays within himself to avoid muscle injuries. Hence I can't remember him getting in behind defences. He's usually dribbling at a reasonably organised defence. He also isn't threatening enough from set pieces. If he was the creative forward with skill in amongst the other three who score regularly. Then fair enough. But he is part of the problem when none of them score regularly. Dipepe to replace him next season.

Yes, whilst I'm a Port Vale supporter I do have a strong interest in Tranmere as well as my local club and one my friends support. Tranmere dropped down to the National League a few years ago and climbed back via a Wembley playoff. It would hurt the local community if a numbskull took over and wrecked the club again. Hence I am interested in this thread and any news / insight that can be garnished about the situation. I have lived on the Wirral for 37 years. As you say people don't have to read and comment on everything. Just ignore what doesn't interest.

Tranmere have broadly the same support and a similar stadium to Port Vale. They keep going, like many similar clubs. But in the shadow of Everton and Liverpool what potential is there these days. The giddy heights of a League Cup final v Leicester and Championship level play offs v Bolton were a quarter of a century plus ago now. Like many similar clubs it's much harder for Tranmere - or Port Vale - to get to Championship level and stay there than in the 1980's and 1990's. Even if Tranmere filled their 15k stadium every week, the revenue still isn't there? But a land deal with Tranmere moving to a new stadium and associated complex near the Wirral waterside may offer opportunities for profit making. Ironically Tranmere could be staring directly across the Mersey at the new Everton ground. This type of future planning may attract someone like Smurf. Mark Palios is an astute person and unlikely to find himself shafted by a Smurf. At age 71 he does need to consider what his life plans are. Sad as I am for Wilson, and grateful for his promotion contribution, we need to sign some strikers / forwards who score goals. If we had a regular goal scoring striker, alongside Garrity and Chislett whose goals are reasonable for forwards, we would not be fighting relegation. I appreciate Dipepa is now a contender in the forward roles.

I've been twice tangled tonight - a good thing - but not if it happens again tomorrow afternoon.

We let our top scorer go and did not replace with an equivalent. Then resigned a forward we know is injury prone and does not score enough anyway at L1 level - panic resigning at that. Brought in a reserve striker from rival club Bristol Rovers who they let go obviously because he does not score enough. Brought in another striker who is similar to what we had - big, strong, but who was months away from fitness. Did give opportunity to Dipepa but although he's ready now, he wasn't at the start of the season. None of this is good at all. We've ended up with a platoon for attackers who don't score enough goals but the evidence to indicate that would be the case was very present in historical records. Fair dues, Chislett showed promise quickly and Garrity was a good retention. But in the present moment, it's not over until the fat lady sings. With better organisation we may still have enough to stay up.
