Pulis Gone: who will replace him?

Recommended Posts

I love this " Be careful what you wish for " ********

For every Wolves there is a West Brom

For every Charlton there is a Swansea

I wished he had gone years ago personally

West Brom have been up and down for the last ten years or so.

Swansea is a poor example.

Martinez started it, Rodgers carried it on, Laudrup carried it further. All similar footballing style.

The makeover of Swansea City is a set style of football.

It doesnt happen overnight mate. And thats got to be your biggest problem.

Youre 5 years behind Swansea in the way their football is played and the way their club is percieved.

Unfortunately for Stoke they have become a laughing stock. Its going to take a while to get that tag removed and to move to the next level.

Ive got a feeling in the not so distant future that it would have been better to have been a laughing stock in the premier league rather than an afterthought outside of it.

Not sure why the whole ethos of the club needs to change, I don't think as radical changes are as necessary as you state. Go back to playing with two decent out and out wingers, a more mobile version of Crouch, a better version of Whelan and some natural full backs and the same direct high tempo tactics wouldn't be the end of the world.

So is that not 8 players you would change?

Time of transition for them. Quantitatively, the figures look very good for them historically under Tiny with safe premiership finishes for a number of seasons, qualitatively they couldn't carry on playing the way they do in terms of acceptability for thee supporters. The nearest analogy for me is Ugly Bolton under Allardice (look what happened afterwards).

If I was preaching optimism for that shower (which is against my religion btw) I'd point to the fact that they may be an attractive proposition to a decent footballing manager as a well established premiership club, which, to be fair is Pulis' legacy. The next appointment is an important one however and I do sense that the likes of Hughes and O'Neill might have lost their mojo now. Di Matteo would be a great coup and Benetezmust surely be beyond them, afterwards it's the likes of Martinez who's done well or Lennon though his achievements are in a very different context.
