This crime seems it was instigated when one of his partners left and caused him to lose £1000/month in child benefit. He was on a salary equivalent of £100,000 a year through his 17 children and was in the top 2% of earners even though he hadn't worked since 2004.

Philpot is an evil man who loved controlling the people around him.

I see Gideon is starting the attack of the classes and not the individuals. The usual newspapers tomorrow will no doubt shove everyone who claims benefits in the same hole.

People are bound to question why the taxpayer should subsidise families with 17 kids when the parents only motive is the child benefit?.

No doubt the same people who are not demanding that the management of SSE are put in prison for fraud! The answer is because the children would starve. The Nazis were good at scapegoats and collective responsibility. Perhaps we should put all benefit claimants childrens in camps that'd solve the problem!!

I understand why people get annoyed with people who use having children as a career choice, but I never see any explanation of the alternative, especially taking into account the innocent kids involved. If people want to vent about politicians and the country then fair enough, but that's easy when you don't have to make decisions based in reality, unless you are happy to put children either into extreme poverty or on the streets.

I think the kids have to be brought up with the support of public funds. They are not at fault and although they should not be given a luxurious lifestyle they should be given the means to reach adulthood in good health and with a reasonable education and prospects.

But there is an issue to deal with in the sense that Philpott was likely to be producing more teenagers and then adults with significant behavioural and educational deficits. That issue would point towards more use of care, but public services could not cope with that approach and care outcomes have in any event also been very poor through poor surrogate parenting.

A good cell mate for a few months would be Chris Huhne!

The management of SSE didn't kill 6 kids though.
