So what's the record for hattricks in a season post war then? Pope is evidently the first to get 3 at VP, is it the overall record too? I can remember Naylor getting two away in 95/96 I think? Charlton in the league and Ipswich in the Anglo Italian. Otherwise I'm struggling. I know Foyle got two Barnet and H'pool but I think they were separate seasons?

 

No disrespect to what Wilf Kirkham achieved as I honestly can't ever see his record being beaten but I'd imagine defenses weren't particular strong/fit in the 20s and 30s. A lot of clubs all time top scorers hail from that period which tells you something.

Foyle's hat-trick against Barnet was 93/94 and vs Hartlepool in the FA Cup was 94/95.

 

Even though we were in the second tier then, we still had to play in the first and second round to even out the numbers. I think it might have had something to do with the FA kicking Spurs out of the FA Cup but reinstating them on appeal.

The Barnet match was played with 10 men for 80 minutes though, Highly impressive performance to start a brilliant season for us.

I believe it's a football league record for goals scored with 10 men too, as it was 0-0 when Billing went off
