Nothing against Lee Hughes, but as many have commented......Tom + Lee ain't the best combination and I suspect that today's hat-trick isn't just a flukey coincidence. But will MA take note?

 

totally agree i got slaughtered on match thread for saying this,,bit like lampard and gerrard for england both great players but struggle to both make an impact in the same game

Brilliant result. The goals we conceded were poor. Taylor started ok but was garbage 2nd half. Yates serves pope with good whipped balls and Dodds was stupendous today. Marshalled pack really well, never stopped running, filled in, put tackles in and the pass for pope's 3rd was sublime. Hughes going off was a blessing in disguise perhaps. Even Andrew did well when he came on. Griffith was better (possibly because he is fitter?) but, like chilvers and mccombe, won't be good enough for the division above. Looking more positive for us and I hope this lifts us for the run in.

That's fine mate, say he was poor but after we've come from behind to beat a promotion rival with Pope getting another hattrick at Vale you contribute that and that only.

IMHO, its horses for courses and depends on the opposition who plays with Pope up front and don't forget Dodds partnering the pontiff. If Vale play one striker up front it has to be Tom Pope not Hughes, as has been suggested on OVF. If Pope does play on his own up front then Dodds is the player to play behind him.

So jones then?? Because Taylor played left didn't he? Jones was a lot better than Taylor today.. Not moaning as I'm still celebrating I was just making the point Taylor didn't want it as much as the others did today..
