Injuries

For any team to succeed, they need a little help from Lady Luck and she seems to have helped us out this season with injuries.

To have only had two players out for prolonged spells (Boom and Loft) at this stage of the season is very "fortunate" (for the want of a better word).

You'd have to go back a good way to find a similar period of such few injuries (certainly pre-Rico ;) )

It may be luck, it also may be because we are doing so well. I would imagine the guys in the first team don't want to get injured as they don't want to lose their place. The guys on the bench/squad players won't wang to get injured just in case they get their chance in the team. They will probably be looking after themselves more than players we've had in the recent past because of this

I think you are right. One player who clearly has been carrying a slight to moderate injury for a while is Ashley Vincent - they showed it being treated on TV a couple of weeks ago, with him wearing some sort of supporting device. It may have been as part of the AFC Wimbledon televised buildup.

Vincent fully-fit will be a bonus as we saw with his goals in the second AFCW game, but I wonder if this 'playing through the pain barrier' is sometimes taken too far sometimes (not this case specifically).

An irony of our lack of injuries so far is that some players have not had the number of games they might have expeced or deserved and must have found it frustrating, but we should all appreciate the part players like Williamson, Morsy, Yates and a few others have played in giving us a formidable bench that Micky can use - easily the best in the division.

Can also be due to improved fitness, warming up etc, better care, nutrition, lots of reasons. But one of the main things will be the part of a winning team, trying to stay in it, trying to get in it. Of course having plenty of quality cover means that subs can be used more often when players pick up knocks and can come off before it gets worse.

Another point to consider is that when these players have been injured, there have always been options to bring other players into the squad to replace them, that have not been a detriment to the teams performance.

Great squad that are all capable of delivering!!! Happy days.

I've also noticed less off the ball incidents since certain players have left, meaning less suspensions for needless yellow cards etc...

The way this season is panning out is down to the professionalism throughout the club. Everyone is taking responsibility and putting as much effort in as they can.

That was a while ago, David. I'm certain it was during our Football League Show coverage as we were the feature League Two game at home to Chesterfield. He had an ice pack on his leg pre-match.

Injuries - how quickly the problems of Haldane, Murphy, Owen, Taylor... get forgotten purely because the team has played so well they've not been missed. Someone has always stepped in and done well. We've even had the luxury of dropping players who were doing OK to try players who could do better.
