I worked with one once, never met such a deluded fool when it came to footballing matters. There was no debate or banter with him like there was hetween the vale and stoke lads, they truly are a strange breed.
Do they actually speak English???

What you have to remember is that Crewe Alex has no identity, they have no history.

In Stoke on Trent people would go to Stoke one week & the Vale the following week. It was tradition and had been for decades. As travelling became faster and easier and cars became the norm those same people started to follow just 1 team for whatever reason. As Stoke were doing well under Waddington and playing in a higher league common sense dictates that City would get more support.

But the Vale had something few other teams could boast about, we are not named after a town or city. We had the history of our great teams & cup runs as well as famous players who started at vale before moving on, but we also had the romance and intrigue of our name. That sort of thing cannot be brought. The history we fought to get, but the name was respected and that respect had to be earned.

Crewe Alex are a small club in a small town with no history and no identity of their own. Their small band of supporters know that and they hate it. They have the biggest population of Polish immigrants than anywhere else in the country. But this influx dates back over 65 years to the 2nd world war. That communitiy of people had no interest in the loca footballl club as they mixed only with their own and so for decades the Alex struggled in the bottom half of the bottom league simply because the people of Crewe had no interest in the town because they had no history or links with the local community in general. The town was divided into two.

Crewe Alexandra's history dates back a couple of decades to the man who discovered the town, their very own Dario!

That's why their tiny support hate us and like to see us as their "rivals. We have what they are struggling to create - history & identity. It will be virtually impossible for them to build what we as a club have. Even if Crewe got into the Premiership, the football world would always view them in the same light as Wimbledon, a small club with a small support playing top flight football. They would and never will be taken seriously.

History lesson over.
