I know who Ray Williams is.

I want to know how "I'm more irked by ex-players being the ultimate no-no." relates to the sentence "As if access to Wikipedia makes people Ray Williams".

He is far from great

Right we are.

I’ll wait to see how it all turns out …

But he was a good player in his day.

Obviously a subjective matter. But in the early 70' he was by far one of our better players

In my humble opinion of course

Logan Cousins has been on loan at Kidsgrove this pre-season.

Some of their fans’ takes:

In all seriousness I can only judge him against players at this level, but in my opinion he's good enough to get a loan in the national league, he's got real quality but he runs his <ovf censored> off constantly as well, been really impressed

I’ve never been more excited about a Kidsgrove loan player than I am about Cousins. He’s phenomenal. Wouldn’t surprise me if he makes his League One Vale debut before the end of the season. Tore Shrewsbury apart tonight. He’s a massive talent.

Honestly, the best 18 (ish) year old I've seen in non league, hopefully we'll keep him for the season becauae he'll tear it up at this level, big big future

The lad is absolutely unreal mate, what a baller

It's amazing how many people have decided that loanee Nathan Broome was a rubbish player after a solitary game.

I wonder if they reached the same conclusion after Salford when Lorent Tolaj was subbed after 68 minutes of his debut?

Personally, 90 minutes is no time to judge a player - you can't judge someone on a single game. I've no idea how good Broome would have been for us because he didn't play enough for us to see. Surely, that's fairer than saying he's "crap" based on one game.

Good luck to him at Bolton - hopefully their fans won't reach a decision on his ability after his first 90 minutes.

Vale fans will happily decide that objectively quite decent players like Santos and Jatta are bad because of 1-2 games against us, and clamour to sign Kurtis Guthrie for 1-2 good games.

Most football fans haven’t a clue about players beyond their own team.

@JoeB2 completely agree. To be honest, it's something I fall into some times. I have to remind myself there is a world of football outside of Vale gams sometimes!

I do think Tolaj is a good example of giving someone time to prove themselves. I would say that by Christmas he was still being judged negatively by a lot of fans but came good in the second-half. That was probably due to playing him in a front two but I suspect there's lot of other factors like getting used to L1 football, moving house, settling into the squad etc. It's for those reasons I think you have to give players more than one solitary game to rush to judgement.

Someone I know who watches Man United youth a lot reckons that United keeper we have would do fine at lower league 1 / 2 level. Only reason they had him though was to warm the youth bench while they sent people out.

I watched the JPT game with Broome in and after the game just never wanted to see him keep nets for us again.

Wish him all the best though, being a GK is unforgiving at times if mistakes are made.

United fans were saying how Gore would be the best player in the league when he came to us.....look how that ended. I take what fans of their prem league clubs (especially supposed 'top 6' clubs') say about their youth players with a very large pinch of salt. Prem fans basically think league 1 & 2 is local non league football.

If Amos is out for 3 months, then the rumours of a younger goalkeeper make complete sense to me. You could land a very good youth goalkeeper just likes others have done in the past.

Pope was full of praise on Twitter – said he’s never seen a player run with that kind of intensity for so long. Also suggested he could break into the first team sooner rather than later.

Don’t know much about Cousins myself – anyone know what sort of player he is?

Given the guy watches his youth team religiously, and wasn't really rating the goalkeeper much at all, I've got little worries of the player being overrated much in this case.

Dan Gore sadly never got much chance to show what he can do for us due to injury but funnily enough had another loan and same thing happened. They still managed to sell him, and sold him because injuries meant they felt he lost valuable time in his development to injury so no longer rated him. Dan Gore is at a make or break period though for his career or he joins a long list of Prem academy graduates plying their trade in North West Counties level (or lower league anyway).

Tons of players leave their academies and come good much later, all done to attitude and players playing at the right level for their ability really. It doesn't mean a player is trash because they've had one or two bad experiences. All part of their development.

As for Logan Cousins, really pleased he is being rated, hope his good performances and development continues.

Good post. As I said, with goalies its particularly unforgiving for them at times if they don't perform off the bat - outfield players tend to get more leeway.
