Port Vale v Harrogate match thread - 4th March

Featured Replies

I do watch Harper off the ball, he was on a run forward late on in the Tranmere game but didn't get the pass, he pops up all over the pitch and tidied up, does some great diagonal long balls too

This is certainly not a dig at anybody but I am just interested to know if those wanting us to go gung ho and full on attack(which I think most of us like) would be happy if we did that but lost 3-2 after leaving ourselves open at the back? just a genuine question

Perhaps not full gung ho but certainly against teams at the bottom a more attacking positive approach not a bad tactic. Teams at the bottom are there for one reason , they are poor. Get at them early on and score and they don't usually come back from that. That's why they are where they are.

I'd prefer to win games any way possible than lose them.

Give me a turgid 1-0 win over a thrilling 4-3 defeat any day of the week.

Truth is there's a happy medium to be had, and we err a lot on the side of caution.

But I'd prefer that and promotion to all out attack and finishing 10th.

I suspect some people on here, and they know who they are, won't be happy unless Moore is sacked either way, just so they can go down the pub and brag they were right all along.

You’d prefer a turgid 1-0 win over a 4-3 win? Personally I’d prefer attacking football with the same result but at the end of the day it’s the result that counts. The issue with Moores style is that when we don’t win it looks really negative and looks like we haven’t had a go.

I don’t particularly think Moore is a good manager, I’ve said that many times but I have no idea why I / others would take pleasure in seeing him sacked and then say I told you so. The ideal is that he gets us promoted this season.

I would guess you are referencing my post and the answer would be that I believe we would have accumulated many more points by playing front foot football than we have with the absolute tripe served up so far. If along the way there are a couple of disappointing results but we still have more points on the board, it's a no brainer. More points and far more enjoyable football, what's not to like?

So do the others though. You can’t pick out one off the ball run and say he does a lot off the ball. He was terrible Saturday which is frustrating as he was good the week before

You wouldn’t just go gung ho though would you. We’ve played a game this season with no strikers at home. We’ve played bottom at home and let them dictate play and tried to sneak a goal. As I’ve posted a few times, the style is perfect against teams like Notts County, Doncaster etc but against the bottom sides we should be much more on the front foot, that isn’t going gung ho

No-one played that well on Saturday, we went totally flat after Harper went off though.

No, I said I prefer a turgid 1-0 win, over an exciting 4-3 defeat.

I've got no issue with your posts at all, but there are some who revel in us doing poorly so they can have a go at the manager and keep telling everyone they were right all along.

I thought a couple of players had really good games….Debrah, Curtis when he had the ball. I also think some players were poor….Byers, Harper, Hackford, Hart.
For me, we don’t need gung ho like Wersatyinup suggests, just some small adjustments- I feel our wing backs don’t get forward enough, John looked dangerous and created our goal when he went down the wing, just didn’t happen enough, Hart had the ball more than anyone on Saturday but created next to nothing. I think we need to get our wing backs further forward, I’d like to see Clark on the right and John on the left and possibly bring Richards, Curtis or Chislett on earlier if needed. We are solid in defence because in effect we have a back 5 but we need to adjust when playing the poorer teams in adjusting to more of a winger system. Granville might hate it because we start winning games 4-3 but single points against bottom half teams now are not going to help the cause.

Oh was going say, I misread your post reading it again, sorry. I’d take a 1-0 win over 4-3 defeat as well.

Don't see John playing tomorrow looked to be struggling at the end when he came over to the fans.

I've always been an advocate of right footed players on the right and left footed on  the left.

However I'm not liking Hart at all. One decent game in a blue moon.

So Clark and John fitness permitting as wingbacks.

Headley a huge loss.

Give over. Harper was the worse player on that pitch alongside Hackford. Both were absolutely shocking. I disagree, Kyle John had another decent game. Also Curtis did ok for me

Everyone would, but on an equal par I think everyone would prefer to see an entertaining 4-3 win over a turgid 1-0 win.

Given Moore's caution with players, injuries, and the fact he's publicly said he wants now to make as few changes as possible, I see something like this:

Amos

Debrah Smith Hall

John Harper Croasdale Chislett Hart

Curtis Tolaj

Rico is quality hasn't been used at all lately .

Chizzy well he needs get his best footballing head ON ,if he does he's a massive asset as home game ,v Chesterfield proved he is attacking he arrives at right time and he can finish .

Needs to be happy though to probably get best out of him ,his he as he doesn't seem to be flowing at all .

Chizzy flowing for last 14 games will give us goals ,assists, and excitement.

We need John, everything good about Vale starts with a manic surge from him .

Clark needs to play like he did v Accrington he was supercharged that day, he needs stay fit and play every game with same thrusting enthusiasm .

Be interesting see if Byers is fit we need him on his game .

There canbe no hiding place so every player needs captain Garrity /Byers to get that extra 10 per cent out of all .

You cannot have 4 out of 11 performing and other 7 not

Big game, big attitude, big encouragement from the crowd required then we have to go to Fleetwood and play all game like second half v NC if we do we win
