Agreed. That Sky Sports deal of a mere 300k is a joke. A big FA cup replay could have been worth that alone if it was up against a Prem Team.

It just goes to show how precarious life is as a smaller club.

Not sure that's the cause, whenever more filters down clubs just spend more money.

In addition to the unfair distribution of money it's also the lack of a decent fit and proper persons test - both of which would be addressed by the football governance bill which was proposed by fans and (shock, horror) is currently being opposed by the PL fat cats.

You wonder if the FA has an agenda to reduce the amount of small clubs until they melt into oblivion.

That's like saying a poor man begging on the street will spend more if he is thrown a quid!

Come on!

As almost all English clubs run at a loss, not really. There is a limited supply of good enough players, exacerbated by leaving the EU and additional restrictions of foreign players. As more money gets poured in that just increases demand further for a limited resource, pushing up cost not profits. Premier League clubs have bigger revenues and losses than league 2 clubs. It's not like the clubs with most money are profitable.

There is a debt crisis in English football, you only need to look at the liabilities in published accounts.  It can carry on until the next global debt shock; which will happen.  Then when credit becomes harder a number of clubs will go under. Whatever the distribution of TV rights clubs are going to continue spending more than they earn; until they can borrow no more. Almost all new money flowing into clubs will get spent on higher wages, regardless of the distribution.  If Morecambe got an extra million a year they'd have spent it and still ended up bankrupt because every other club in their league would have spent their extra million trying to attract the same players.

I don't think this is necessarily about Morecambe not getting enough money but more about the club being poorly run.

So, the problem, for me, lies more with the fit and proper persons test not working (allowing these guys to buy the club) rather than the distribution of money (though that's not to say that's not an issue too).

This is the biggest thing for me. The "fit and proper persons" test isn't worth the paper its written on.

The EFL are inept on many levels but allowing any old charlatan who can prove they've got a bank account to buy a football club is one of their biggest failings.

Clubs will always be bailed out, just the banks.

In the end it's the supporters who suffer, again and again.
