Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Are you sure mate because I went Charlton and recall him in midfield.

Also Worrall played against Plymouth as did Benning . Surely those 2 were the wing backs that day.

Either way he's been a victim of his versatility. I hope as others have said that he gets continuity at Yeovil.

Charlton he played in middle not as a winger. He played a little further forward than the Ipswich game, when he was very much a holding midfield player. Plymouth the back 3 was Donnelly,  Smith, Benning. Plant played right and Worrall left wingback. Worrall struggled a bit on the left, which surprised me. Crosby commented after the game about the fact Plant had yet to play as a winger.

Plant does need a settled position but he isn't going to make it as a winger. He's not as good on the ball as Benicio, Richards or Diamond (or Shorrock). It doesn't really matter what position a player plays to judge passing, ability to control the ball or beat a man. He's not as good on the ball as Stevie Harper was when he started at a similar age, who was never really better than a good league 4 winger. He's also not that quick over the first 10 metres. What he does have is decent speed over distance,  a phenomenal work ethic and I felt he was developing football intelligence.  I think he averaged more tackles per game last season than any other Vale player.

Personally I still think he has a good chance of making a career in the game. I suspect he will settle at rightback/wingback or possibly in central midfield.  I'm not convinced it will be at Vale as I suspect Moore is more a wheeler and dealer manager than a developer of young players. That's neither a good or bad think. When Rudge took over we had some good young players he let go to release funds. Banks and Askey both eventually returned to league football to show they did have the raw ingredients to be successful.  Rudge went on to be the best manager of my lifetime and arguably in the Club's history.

There does seem to be a desire to rewrite the initial James Plant story. The first time I saw him play was at Kidsgrove when he and Plant rotated between Left Wingback and Central Midfield.  Both did well and I thought were the 2 best players on the day. Since then he's only played a couple of JPT games on the wing. There were a couple of Salisbury games streamed live when he played on the left wing, although he was more of a left sided midfielder than an attacking winger. He never was, nor will be, the reincarnation of Mark Chamberlain.

So far away from a football league player unfortunately at the minute. Wish him all the best, go get em Planty 🪴

I dont think he is mate if played in his natural position,he could certainly do a job at League 2 level if played there imo

Feel sorry for him as he ALWAYS gave 100% and again only my opinion but very rarely if at all let us down

No end product. I like the kid but what does he actually offer even when playing as a winger. Doesn’t beat a man & his final ball is poor. Pretty lightweight as well. Hopefully this loan does him the world of good as I certainly want to see him shine in a Vale shirt in the future. Big stage in his career you feel. His best attribute is undoubtedly his energy & work rate as you’ve mentioned but you need a bit more than that even at league two level.

I noticed that a free agent full back who has been mentioned on here has now signed for Northampton on a short term deal  Nesta Guinness-Walker.

I cant remember his name but i know he was a free agent but has the full back Lincoln released signed for anybody

Do we need another full back unless we get another injury?  Left sided maybe, but then only to allow John to play in his more natural right sided role.  We haven’t really struggled defending in the wide positions so far apart from Barrow when injuries hit us.  Biggest issue is lack of pace through the middle from what I can see and a bit of slack marking/tracking runners.  The stats may paint a different picture so I may well be wrong.

How far away are Clarke and Hart by the way?

You might be right,i wasn't saying to sign one now as like you say we should be ok and maybe look at it in January if injuries persist

It would be nice to get updates on Clark and Hart but just imagine when all of them are back fit, cant wait to see Clark and John charging down the left and right.

Clark looked decent in pre-season, Hart looked decent before his injury, so we’ve really good options once those two are fully fit.  No idea on Hart but feel like Moore mentioned Clark was back training in some fashion.

Nowt in particular.

Please dont think we a right old sour puss but, I've just got a very slight niggle in the back of my mind.  Last year we fell in love with Alfie and head-over-heels with The Blaster (who wouldn't!) and here we are again, loving Benicio, just seen the thread about Brandon (loving him, too)...  Four of our first team are loanees.  Just a (mild) niggle in my brain.  Hate to see either of those 2 go back in January.  IF the money could be found could we sign Cover on perm...( @Brian Johnson - yes, I know, a man is allowed to dream ya know! 🤣🤣🤣)

Thats all.
