The one I remember from a while back (mid 80s) was Billy Kellock. I saw his debut where he was amazing and scored twice. Then after four goals in next to no time, he got injured, fell out of favour and left.

He was great in that short stint. I think he just turned down a contract we offered him.

Billy Kellock reminded me that we also had Ritchie Humphreys for a short spell. Both were versatile and lower league journey men. I think Humphreys managed to play every outfield position during his career.

Tony Loska, Peter Farrell, Frank Sharp, Gordon Logan.

Tony Loska very unlucky to leave us.  He was a makeweight in the deal that brought Neil Griffiths to us.  He was a very good left back. He was a star in Chester's run to the semi finals of the League Cup as a Division 4 club, along with John James of course.

Gordon Logan was also a bit unlucky to be released.  He stood in at right back.  He usually played if any other defender was injured and Clint Boulton was moved to cover, particularly in our promotion season when Johnny King missed some games.  Clint went into the middle and Gordon came into the team.  He was a tall solid defender who never let us down, great to have as back up.

We sold Brian Horton for £30,000 and just 2 years later we paid £40,000 to sign Peter Farrell.  Never in Port Vale's history has such appalling judgement been shown.  Peter was our record signing, he was an average Div 4  midfielder, nowhere near the class of Nobby Horton.  Peter's signing was a huge folly by newly appointed and hugely forgettable manager, Dennis Butler.

Frank Sharp arrived with a good CV and started off really well as a clever right winger, but come the Autumn his form nosedived and he quietly disappeared from view.

Interesting career change for this former player who made a handful of appearances under Neil Aspin:

A few former players that I can remember joined the Police service.  Gordon Logan, Dave Mitchell, Tim Parkin.  Jim Arnold was not a Police Officer but he worked for Staffordshire Police.

The most bizarre career change was Terry Armstrong, he became a Prison Officer, then later became a Prisoner!

I was at that game too Rob.  He was like a one man team that night. Not only scoring two he seemed to take every corner, free kick, and throw in!!

Although I may be getting confused but my memory ties Billy Kellock's debut with John Woodward scoring twice?

Kristian Pearce. On loan ball playing centre half from Birmingham I think. Looked like he should have played at a higher level

Robin Bernsten. Lasted 45mins I think.

I think we were one of the clubs who gave a trial to the infamous Ali Dia.

Reuben Agboola

Colin West - on load from WBA I think. Scored a couple (maybe)

Lest we forget Martin Henderson. The deal for him eclipses the Farrell one surely? The young uns think Loft and Guthrie were bad.
