I couldn't see Gareth Ainsworth coming here anyway. All his interests outside football are in the south and that's where he's likely to stay.

I went into Wetherspoons. tonight as I do post PV Tuesday games. There was a dude playing on chess.com on his phone. Another dude interested in him. 

Anyway, I asked him who his favourite chess player of all time was. I told him mine is Tigran Petrosian. He clearly didn't know who Petrosian was (world champion 1963 - 1969). That's extraordinary not to know that as a strong chess player. So you immediately know, without playing him, his likely level of current ability. But he may have got addicted to chess on chess.com as an arcade game for him. 

I feel this with the players we sign. I know some are young, but there is complete data on the games, results and levels. They must know who needs to develop / may be out of their depth. Yet tonight we seemed to have this assessment hopelessly wrong. Orient were stronger in every aspect.

By the way, Tigran Petrosian was renowned for his defensive play. Basically countering every threat until the opponent is exhausted and leaves weaknesses to be exploited in a counter attack. We seem to try that, but need to defend better and take chances up front. Not doing this approach well presently??

Petrosian's story is worth reading on wiki from the perspectives of overcoming adversity and disability. His hearing disability is possibly less serious today, but in his era adult and child learning would be affected.

Before being sacked by Bristol Rovers, I would of agree with you. Loved the football he got them playing especially in our/their promotion season but since he got sacked by Rovers, he's been an absolute disgrace of a human being & should never be anywhere near a football club ever again

I agree we need somebody realistic at the club but he's juts gone way too far with what he's been doing over the past few weeks.
