January Transfers and Rumours

we have to get rid of this stupid limit on strikers wages. No other team in the league has such low wage limit for strikers. It’s gonna cost DF and AC their jobs and Vales league one status.

No we don't. Frustrating though it is we have to keep within the budget. Otherwise we end up like Reading, or some other club who are desperate for their moneybags chairperson to keep them afloat when the club is a financial mess.. We are being sensibly run, that means we have limits.  How those limits are applied within the squad is the DF's job.

Lets imagine a we did sign a trumped up superstar striker yesterday. And let's say they agree to blow the limit and pay double what anyone else in the club is being paid. What would the existing players think - what would Garrity, Loft!, Chizzy, Smith think? They would want the same, or they would expect the new striker to be way better than them. It may get a result but it ends up with wages spiralling.  On that note I would be very interested to know how things are with Loft if he is the current top earner.

It's an incredibly hard job running Port Vale - it always has been. We are the second club in a comparatively poor part of the country. It's a tough sell, and it's really hard to generate revenue. There is some money in the countryside around Stoke, but that doesn't make any of them football fans or people willing to risk their cash by investing in the club. I look at a club like Macclesfield struggling along and yet with masses of rich folk all around the immediate area. Is there a queue of Rolls Royces outside their ground spilling £50 notes all over the reception area?

So tough and frustrating as it is, for me we have to 'cut our coat according to our cloth'. The other way results in potential oblivion.

As my Povey order came the other day.  It's oatcakes, bacon and cheese tomorrow and sunday.  Something to look forward to and on sunday to pick myself up from the loss or celebrate the win.  Either way will be good as its oatcakes being troughed.
Today is egg banjo day. as I don't do fish friday.  Those in the know - know egg banjo and fish friday.
If you stick a couple of black pudding slices in that egg banjo sandwich, you will eat the greatest sandwich ever. Try it gorgeous

I have been hiding away avoiding all the wrath and animosity. I have often said on our mutual beloved site, it is for all our opinions everyone. I am certainly on the side of questions reference our current circumstances. There is absolutely no doubt we are in a perilous situation. It is abundantly clear we have tried to find the cheapest way of surviving this league by exploiting the loan system and buying players generally no one else wanted. It is also obvious we do not learn our lessons well, hence our record on injury prone players. I am not for aiming my words at the owners realism creeps in, football is an expensive investement or hobby as the case may be. If you live with the sword you die by it.

Totally baffled by what's occurred .

Just seen the tweet.

No left wing back or no striker .

It's unbelievable.

How on earth do they expect results with players who have proved they cannot do it gamely the seasoned pros only perform well once in a blue moon .

Not one be negative but this is absolutely ridiculous.

I cannot see it ending well .

You supposed attract folk to the ground not make them not want to come

I'm astounded

we could of brought 2 strikers, a wing back, sorted the paddock bogs out & a new sports scientist in & some would still find something to moan about! Get a grip ffs

I think we got enough sports science people at the moment 👍

that doesn't suprise me. You've never even heard of mighten before yesterday so i won't take your opinions lightly. I love a moan but your next level cheer up 😂

At the start of the window the club identified (finally) two positions to strengthen, a striker and a LWB (before uches injury) and we have come out with neither. Mighten is a winger that was sent back from his loan at a league 1 club last season in January and started 2 games for a side bottom of their league this season. I haven’t seen him play and will obviously judge him on what he does for us, but all reports i have seen suggest he’s a winger. For me that gives two options, we play him as a winger and change formation (sensible option) or stick him up top or LWB to fill one of the gaps we have left, I know which will happen.

Not too much to be cheerful about with the vale at the moment.

how many times have we made this same mistake now? Is it 3 / 4?

There is if you know where to look.  But if your cheerfulness can only be determined by an unsatisfactory transfer window, you're doomed to be cheerless.
