Declan Rice

Great news for England that he's finally declared to play for his country of birth, England. He's a brilliant young player and if it's one thing England currently lack it's players in the middle of the park with ability. He can make that defensive midfield position his own in the coming years just as long as he keeps his feet on the ground and continues to improve.

England have so much talent now. The side in a few years time could look something like this, and it's looking rather tasty!

Pickford

Alexander-Arnold/Wan-Bissaka/Walker-Peters

Gomez/Oxford

Stones/Maguire

Chilwell/Shaw/Sessegnon

Rice/Loftus-Cheek

Foden/Winks/Cook

Alli/Lingard/Maddison

Sterling/Sancho

Rashford/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Hudson-Odoi

Kane

Add to that the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Oliver Skipp, Hamza Choudhury, Mason Mount, Harvey Barnes, Morgan Gibbs-White, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith-Rowe, Rhian Brewster and Eddie Nketiah. I don't want to hear anything about England lacking talent, because it's absolute dog ****. There's a reason our youth sides have been winning most things over the last couple of years. In a few years time England could be some force on the International stage.

Agreed, these players need to be playing first team football though in order to reach their potential.

Most of them already are. Phil Foden isn't but he's very much seen as David Silva's successor there, though perhaps he should go out on loan next season as Silva looks as good as ever, and Hudson-Odoi, who looks set to leave Chelsea anyway. Sancho is playing every week for Dortmund, as is Nelson for Hoffenheim. Walker-Peters is very much in the mix at Spurs currently but I don't think he gets in ahead of Alexander-Arnold or Wan-Bissaka anyway.

We are a force on the international stage already. Gareth Southgate deserves credit for giving youth it's chance.

It's getting better definitely, and I think the national team will improve because of it.

  • 4 weeks later...

The FAI are a shower of idiots . He declared for England in September. after winning 3 caps for Ireland. The FAI still went ahead and awarded him the Young Irish Player of the Year in January.

Of course he won’t be attending the awards , which take place the day before he joins up with the England squad.

Typical cart before the horse mentality from the FAI, or just plain stubbornness.
