Match Thread - Morecambe v Port Vale

How many times in the second half did we punt the ball downfield for Pope to flick on straight to their goalkeeper? It was asking for the pace of Whitfield to be on the pitch. We simply got away with one Saturday.

Which is exactly what happens when the midifeld and other forwards go missing or drop deep, it leaves us with no options. That in turns makes the defender look bad whos just done that, but with no other alternatives what do they do? Other teams have done that to us this season, leaving us with no alternative but to launch it. Put a couple of men on Pope and the ball goes back to the opposition.

Every ball that Pope won in the air just skidded straight through to their keeper. Quigley did well with the cross, but little else other than that, he looked half a yard off it as well.

I can understand the frustration about the Manny subbing. He'd had a poor game but he was as likely as anyone to pull something out of the blue. Would you take Pope off if he was having a poor game or would you leave him on just in case one decent cross landed on his head?

Exactly mate. Imo Aspin shoots himself in the foot sometimes. He continually plays players out of position and definitely has his favourites but if us fans dare criticise his selections or substitutions he doesn't like it! He and Vale got out of jail Saturday. His substitution mystified those what were there. Admittedly Manny was having a shocker, along with most of the squad. So why take off someone who at least had the ability to pass the ball or get us moving? One of several others should have been substituted. In addition Quigley, again for those of us that have seen him play, is not the answer. His cross to Pope indeed was terrific but come on he looks lost as a so called "striker." Sorry , Aspin I loved you as a player but quite honestly the jury is still out on your long term managership of our great Club. Prove me wrong, please.

One of the images on Vale site if captured at the correct point appears to show a trailing leg playing Kay onside. Probalem is you cant see if its the exact point the ball was hit but one player is slightly slower than the rest getting out.

I love it when teams let in a goal like that. Charging out at a set piece to try to play a man offside is nowt to do with football and relies totally on the efficiency of a liner who had been tripe all afternoon. If it was offside, they have no one to blame but themselves. It's anti-football.

My gut instinct at the time, admittedly through a bit of a haze of ale and a view behind the goal rather than to the side, was Kay was marginally onside but several others were way off. I can't really tell if ToyahW's pic backs up that theory or not. Yesterday's Sentinel tells me it was a goal though, and that's all that counts!

Just before the ball was struck, their players were coming out ours were going in. Miles offside, but as Jacko says, who gives a.... it's a dangerous tactic.

Looks tight and certainly not the five yards off that their manager claimed.
