Match Thread - Port Vale v Northampton Town

Once again we are going down the road, that if we win, the other team is abysmal and the victory there for the taking. Aka; we are crap.

If we loose, we are the crap people use to scrape worse crap of their shoes.

Do we have to beat a full strength Man City team at their place, for the team to get some credit and people on here to be happy with a win?

Northampton are currently 20th in the league for a reason, because they are not very good. They have a few decent players but they are by no means one of the better teams in the league, and for me Vale should be beating them at home 7 or 8 times out of 10.

legge did tweet that he is a different animal when it comes to competitive games and i think he mentioned that in his interview last week, i agree he’s been playing well lately, i don’t read much into pre season i read more into the pressure games and see who are the players that can be relied on when 5-6 thousand fans are screaming at them on a saturday afternoon

They had 5 good/decent chances yesterday (Two before Vale scored) and one off the line which on any other day could have gone in, take a look at the extended highlights. Goals change games.

If team A beat team B every time they were expected to do then I would have won the pools by now.

I never said that they didn't create chances, so I have no idea why you're spouting about what they did and didn't create. All I said is that they were toothless and didn't look like scoring because of that reason.

For me it was the pace and movement of Vale, especially in the midfield, which gave us the performance and win. Seeing younger players in there made all of the difference and even though they made the odd mistake, they kept driving forwards and looking more and more positive. I mentioned to a mate of mine at half time that if we got the next goal and went 2-0 up, we could win this by 4 or 5 and I really think that we could have done if we had been a little more clinical with finishing and had a little more luck.

I think that its really important that Aspin doesn't let them get carried away with one really good performance and reminds them that this was all created through 90 minutes of hard work and earning the right to play by putting Northampton under pressure all over the pitch. All in all though, one of the best performances for a long while and if we keep that up, it could be a good season. Lets hope we keep the confidence and hammer Crewe! :)

Just accept Vale played well and Northampton didn't put the ball in the net from the 5 good chances they created. They'd scored more goals than Vale up until Saturday.
