General not very important observation on the Vale clothing line

The problem clubs have with clothing is that it doesn’t appeal to the vast majority of people. Personally I wouldn’t be seen dead in a port vale polo shirt on nights out or casual wear. I’d possibly wear one to the gym or on holiday but that would be about it. Because of the culture of labels and designers I would suggest 95% of fans wouldn’t purchase casual wear that isn’t branded by a designer. Getting the market right for the 5% must be very difficult and a task I wouldn’t envy at all.

Casual wear van be done modern!

It's just down to choosing the right items in the catalogue. A simple search on a random PL site (I chose Spurs at random), shows that casual wear can be done:

Modern clothing with subtle logos.

Now then. That’s much better.

I suppose Spurs, with their 60000 attendances, are going to have a bit more commercial clout than 90% of clubs.

Pin badges. That’s the answer. At least it’s the best I have. It’d be nice to support the club via its clothing line but as pointed out above, style (at least what passes for style in chez Marmaduke) is scarcely ever seen near football club shops as they simply stock generic, lowest common denominator clothing lines.

Custom T-shirts can be had for next to nothing these days. Is there a copyright on the Seth Bottomley graphic, I wonder...? :)

I actually thought of doing a few shirts myself, as I know a guy who works with pro printing. But I don’t want to get in trouble for using the logo...

Wow, really?

Guess I’m in the 5% unless George from Asda counts as a designer

That's an interesting viewpoint, personally I just buy what I like and don't care if it's a 'designer' brand or some producer I've never heard of. Simple purchasing decision; do I like it & do I like it enough to pay what they're asking? I have nothing but subjective measure on this but I would think a lot of people make purchasing decisions on that basis.

Bottom line is if the club shop sells stuff that people like at a price they're prepared to pay they'll shift decent volumes.
