Bye bye Uber

Great news that Uber is losing its London licence. A victory for decent taxi drivers and bad news for alleged criminals. Let's hope more places quickly get rid of this scourge of the highways.

Great shame..Fantastic service, typical socialist idea, get rid of competition,it will put 1k plus on the dole plus if they have borrowed to buy their cars debt to deal with.

London cabbies are brilliant but things move on.

A lot of their drivers are alleged criminals, many are alleged illegal immigrants, they allegedly lower safety standards and make journies allegedly unsafe for vulnerable people such as young girls, older people, the disabled and so on.

They are out to finish the reputable black cab and lower the profession to become a cheap dutch auction with alleged cheap sub-standard vehicles and the possibility of allegedly very dodgy criminal drivers.

Good riddance, let's hope other big cities and other places do the same.

Ultimately it was a regulatory issue around having the correct DBS checks, medical checks and so on for their drivers. They couldn't ensure the safety of their passengers so TfL withdrew their licence to operate.

I don't think the grounds for the decision are any more political than that. I expect them to come up with some sort of a solution and carry on operating.

Not just the drivers but the cars need checking carefully with any private rubbish like this. Do Uber drivers also have to pass 'the knowledge' that real taxi drivers do ? Or are we headed for a situation like New York where many taxi drivers don't speak English, you have to tell them the way and there is a real risk of crime against the passenger.

What are we saving next bea? phone boxes?

Pesky mobile phones.

No, don't start getting aerated - you know what it does to your itchy bits. mobile phones do not involve placing yourself in the hands of an unknown stranger with a possible dangerous vehicle that can put you at risk of assault, rape, robbery, overcharging, and all sorts of other danger.

Therefore, mobile phones are a poor analogy. A better one would be cheap unregulated private medical staff giving out advice that puts you at risk.

Or perhaps you would like to sack all food inspectors and health inspectors and let anyone sell food even if it were prepared in filthy conditions and contained all sorts of muck - more regulation is needed to protect the public in a lot of fields.

And please don't misquote or twist my words above if you wish to debate it.

Agreed, they will most certainly appeal and I'd imagine given the success of the company in this area that they will probably win.

To be honest I use them regularly worldwide and I've yet to have a poor experience.

Of course, I should have added that sometimes it is the unlucky few drivers that have the bad experiences.

This article pertains to one city, they are a global organisation.

As Santa suggests I'd be surprised if they don't win their appeal on London Town too.

Sent from my iPhone using the onevalefan mobile app

At the very least they will have to clean their act up and check some of the alleged riffraff they employ, and there will be a lot of empty uber heaps in London tonight.

That rating means nothing, especially when customers are intimidated by scummy drives knowing their address where they have dropped them off.

Look at this and learn (first time for everything)

https://www.wired.com/2015/03/bogus-uber-reviews/

Thats the rating all the drivers have given me for goodness sake, at least if you are going to try and be personal keep up and understand how the system works 🙄

You sound a lot like carllllllll at times, judging things you have no concept of rather letting certain aspects of the media control your mind.

Some of the links you supply are sensationalist, traditional taxi drivers for instance have been stained because of the abuse cases in recent years so you have to try and balance an argument and present fact rather than simply listen to what your selected news feed tells you to think.

I use them regularly at home in Leeds for instance where traditional taxis also double up as Uber's and in Australia where the price in most cities for a journey is almost halved.
